Good thing there are two ways to completely bypass the segment:
Saving and loading your way through the marsh to reset his progress.
Waiting for Zolo to be at the extreme end of the marsh and you making a dash to the cave before he nabs you.

The remake did away with that.

Lunar SSSC had you switch discs if you wanted to take a bath.
