Referencing a years-old joke in the thread title really sums up the lack of innovation in movies.

Inception is really good I can't imagine being bored by it.

They didn't really do much with the dream concept in the second half, and the plot was pretty straightforward. Kinda felt like they spent their mental craziness budget in the initial concept and Nolan thought if they didn't keep the plot simple then people would be too confused. I mean, it was fine, it just kinda seemed to sell the concept short and wrap everything up too neatly. It felt very Hollywood.

Then the "is he still dreaming?" is tacked on to the end to make everything seem more profound than it is.

I did appreciate the character names.

The audience isn't meant to know if he's still dreaming because he doesn't know, or more importantly he doesn't care.

I guess my problem with that is there's no mystery: it's obviously reality according to the rules established, the idea he might possibly be dreaming still comes from nowhere. So when I saw it my eyes rolled out of my head. He's happy because he's with his kids, oooh what a twist.

otherwise the re:view was on point

You're right that the problems in Picard are basically a continuation of the movie problems.

The old shows had good and bad episodes, and we only have to watch the good ones. The new shows (like all modern "good" TV) are basically eight hour long movies that are only as good as the crappiest elements you have to watch to understand what's going on.
