I want movies with real goon forts. Like a movie that tackles the idea of these damp nerds that think they'll be "survivors". Some dude with boot camp training that was a pencil counter in the Navy just rolling up and bulldozing New Mos Eisley and slaughtering the dorks with flea market swords inside and liberating the den mother / concubine the sweaty dweebs kidnapped. And dumping fuel in the air vents of rich people shelters and burning them out. As much as I love Mad Max, we're extremely overdue for modernist post-apocalypse realism instead of just endlessly repeating the tropes of 70s sci-fi.

Mandalorian: - 1 guy planned the whole thing - hired his own team to see it through - very little studio interference Nu Star War: - 3 people with 6 different plans - no consistency or oversight between these people - Kathleen's dumb rear end issuing the mouse's edicts daily I know "auteur theory" irritates the poo poo out of some film nerds, but it is glaringly obvious that this is the ONLY way to handle "franchise" films. (See also: Tim Burton's Batman films, versus Schumacher's after interference from WB, Mcdonald's, etc., versus Chris Nolan being left alone)

You absolutely don't need original negatives for 2k or 4k scans. You'll only have degradation at 8-16k. And when you have them and "parts were destroyed" you can patch in. loving Citizen Kane and Metropolis were restored from prints scattered across the globe. We have a full Star War in the Library of Congress as well as whatever percentage of the original negatives remain AND prints collectors saved, which number in the thousands. "But they were damaged" is bullshit of the highest order. George is just a pissy turd man. In simplified terms, you can have the entire film trilogy scanned at 16k and during the Han Shot First scene for a few seconds the picture would drop to a measly 4k. The Criterion Channel is running a 70s Sci-fi marathon this month and since the first I've watched so many great post- apocalyptic films like Mad Max, The Omega Man, Soylent Green, The Ultimate Warrior, THX 1138, Logan's Run, A Boy and His Dog, and No Blade of Grass. Anyways, weird coincidence this started on new year's day and now not only are we facing mass extinction and global warming, but now World War 3 is on the table. Happy Final Decade movie nerds!
