^^^ Nice blood splatter! ^^^

Crossposting from the 3d thread here since I got some great advice last time.

So I am probably going to regret this but I am trying to make a mural out of this piece and could use some critique. It is a very long wall I am not sure if I should put the column on the left side (the corner of the shop) or use the column to end the mural about half way down the wall on the right side. There are a couple of things missing or left to model but the majority is done outside of lighitng and surface dev. The shop is called Column 15 so I am tempted to leave it where it is next to the corner entrance but on the other hand, it would make a good bookend to the mural. Right now the mural just kind of ends ubruptly about halfway down the wall. Maybe flip the flying monkey to the other side and scale him up so he is bigger than the stop sign? Hmm. Missing elements include the monkey holding a coffee thermos vs. a wrench, fur for the legs, and yellow brick road leading through the gate (?) I was thinking about making the foreground very washed out and then make everything through the gate full saturated color.

Here is an earlier mockup where you can see how wide the wall is. Also you can see the idea for the road.

And one with slightly better lighting.

Haven't begun on surface dev or texturing yet. Not looking forward to moving more than a million verts to Maya / Arnold or even Keyshot.

drat. That's cool as hell!
Looks like an insane amount of work.

Preliminary sketch for my kaiju character. Plan on painting it eventually, but need to flesh out a lot of scene and iron out details. Know I want it to be reasonably large to capture a lot of the finer details.

I don't know you at all but I haven't been in this thread for at least a year and the difference in your work is striking. Congratulations. You have distinctive look and it's now at a different level is all I can say. :)

Thanks a lot, Spinz!

Thanks! Yeah - it's a lot... and I haven't even started painting yet. A lot of people are saying to take the flying monkey out but since that part of it was the majority of the work I want frame it better, not remove it completely. *sigh*

Yeah, I messed up the elbow part. Tried to reference my own arm by imagining what it would look like if I stood infront and below myself but I guess it didn't work :D
I'll get it next time, by having the patience to look up a reference.

Sort of finished with this drawing, might do a bit more on it sometime.

Gummibear proof of concept/color study. Turns out semi transparent objects are hard as hell to do, shading is especially difficult as the tones shift in kinda strange, very subtle ways. Happy with this though. Need to remember to force the highlights a bit more and really give it a nice sheen.

Just another day in #2020.

dog nougat

Had a frustrating day art-wise. The gummibear was a replacement for a popsicle in an older pic i made as i felt the popsicle and the ice cream monster were too thematically similar (being frozen confections)

The problem is that the image feels largely unbalanced, and if i just make the bear larger it'll be kinda weird and obviously too large. The alternative is to either do nothing but gimmibears, but then the image will feel too empty. Or to rework the entire image and composition. Which I'm willing to do, but am finding frustrating at this point as I'm trying to work within a square.

I've put that image on the back burner for a bit, and decided to just pursue something more interesting for the time being. Doing some experimentation with a gothic sci-fi setting. Needs a lot more work to get where I really want it, but it's a good start.

Edit:
Went back im and did some shading and added some trash n graffiti. Made it look appropriately dingy.

Speaking of studies. Here is a quick ink pass on that troll. Seems like it is harder and harder to find time to draw. "Not making art is emotional suicide". Xposted from the traditional art thread.

Good stuff as usual y'all! Feel like that cat cop would be beating up on drunk rat buddy here.

It's basically a proof of concept for the scifi-art-deco-gothic city I'm working on. Mostly just a simple pose and simple clothes for the rat. I want the end result to be more science-fictiony and a semi-dystopian religious city populated with various creatures and semi-anthropomorphic space rats. All overseen by the rat papacy of course.

Here's some relatively rough work on some more of the details of the gothic and art-deco aspects, with a little bit of sci-fi stuff thrown in. And a super iterative version of some signage.

My cat-cop would never beat up a drunk rat unless he deserved it of course.

Here's a drawing I came up with I don't know why. Started with a loose study-sketch of some facial features I thought were interesting and then it grew around that.

Revisited an old friend today.

The RAT POPE!!
This time with papal tiara.

Stupidly the papal tiara I drew isn't even close to as opulent as the real one's.

Here's an earlier iteration/an attempt at doing straight on rat faces (it's loving hard y'all). Still gotta work on those lil rat hands/paws.

For reference, here's my original rat pope sketch from years ago.

Thanks! I'm potentially getting more involved than absolutely necessary. I'd be amazed if I ever turn it into a story/comic, but who knows. Feels like I picked some stupidly finely detailed things to work with, but I'm confident the end result will be worth it.

Been digging all these portraits you've been doing! It's something I should definitely work on myself. Portraiture is an area where I feel like I'm still decidely lacking.

Doin some work on Ratstronaut today.

Made an attempt at coloring it and somehow managed to just gently caress it up completely. Feelin real loving dumb. Somehow I forgot what the hell I was doing, now the colors just look all muddy and weird and I hate it. :(

Edit: I was going for a slightly reddish to a brown-ish vaguely green ochre and just overworked the gently caress out of it.
