This one is really funny with some great farce pacing and a call-back to Lois' grody cologne cocktail from the last strip, but I think it's a victim of the Essential's desire to condense the Lois/Emma plotline down to the bare essentials.
Dorothy is being a total rear end here, because she's going to know what Emma's up to on her "night off". She's deliberately trying to mess up the tryst - but didn't reckon with Emma, who is as always ruthless in pursuit of what she wants. Never mentioned, but really obvious; another example of Bechdel using "show, don't tell" for complex human interactions. Dorothy and Emma seem like they're rather well matched in personality.

Would people be interested in Leonard and Larry, a long running gay gag/storyline strip, as a counterpart to DTWOF? It's not nearly as deep, but still pretty entertaining, and has a nice touch for farce for a storyline strip.

What I've seen of Leonard and Larry was really sweet and very very well drawn so yeah!

Did you know dogs have a good sense of smell?

Because of the way the dog is shown to be running straight down the path, Jams just implied that it swam through the water close to the edge of the waterfall. :psyduck:

This really makes me believe that the story with the orphan and the forest fire was drawn by someone else, because as bad as the art was, there was some thought put into the placement of characters and the background that makes the sequence of events easy to understand.

Margo's look of disgust sums up this storyline very well.

Vargo posted:

Soooo is Mark just not even gonna TRY to look for his dog or is it another Dr. Vargo situation?

It's definitely the latter. Rusty is freaking out that his dog has been missing for an entire day but Mark tells him not to worry. Because surely the huge storm yesterday couldn't have made the forest muddy and made the dog fall down a ditch or something. Mark loves to hear himself talk about nature and animals but we never really see him give a poo poo about it.

Didn't someone link an article a while back written by one of the people that manages which comics gets sent to newspapers, and they were talking about how they used to like Jams' taking over Mark Trail, but all the recent storylines have been so dire that he's this close to firing Jams? This seems like it might be the final straw if they saw these awful Tweets.

This is a boss who forces her bootlickers assistants to risk their lives by going to her home to work every day despite the quarantine. No way she's going to allow them to get comfortable and sit outside with their laptops for the company picnic.

Also, this is yet another instance of Dethany and her boss forcing the employees into a Zoom conference and wasting everyone's time, so gently caress them.

I remember being right tickled pink by the bystander's Far Side comic when I first saw it.

The comic is really vague about what makes Grönberg's composting toilet special, even though it is at the center of a major plot line later on.
