today at my job a woman responded to me asking this by telling me all about how her car was stolen that morning, including an inventory of everything that was in the car, and finished her story by saying "Y'know I'm not worried about it but I'm a minister and I'm worried about their SOULS".

I wish people would just say "fine".
There are plenty of other ways to greet people if you actually don't care about how they're doing.

It's Max Sarin on art, so Lottie by way of Giant Days.
Who's going to be writing it? I drifted away from Giant Days after a year or so because I didn't care for Susan's characterization. Her original depiction made her an instant favorite, but in comic book form she was just consistently awful to non-lovely folks for no good reason.

Yeah, it's called Zelda now.

For whatever reason the author has declared that the end of Severed Alliance is the official end of the strip and these, the final three stories, didn't happen. No-one's really sure why.

My personal theory is that Grendel and Sengupta are so likable and well-adjusted they make the rest of the universe's cast look bad by comparison so he had to erase them from history.
The other characters really grew on me, too.

When Bad Machinery started, I was afraid I wouldn't like the new cast as much as the old, but it didn't take long for me to get on board and overall I liked it more than Scary-go-Round.

With the new characters, I just have faith in him telling stories with new characters in a familiar setting.

On that note, thanks to the thread for introducing me to Steeples. It's a treat.

Anybody want a cut-out from panel 4? Those are some pretty good expressions. Not-Lottie is has a terrible poker face.
I never thought of the new batch as analogues for the Bad Machinery cast, but I'm curious: what makes makes Charlotte most like Georgia?

It's 2020, most software doesn't crash without a reason.

- Make sure the software is up to date
- Run a virus check
- Make sure your computer has enough space on it so things can run
- Run CCleaner
- If the software continues to crash, note what you're doing when it crashes, or if there's a regular time.
- Submit a crash report to the company

Like come on, you don't have to put up with bad software anymore, there are steps you can take to help the problem. Certainly more productive than whining about it.

Now of course the writer is from 1995 where Windows itself just loved to crash whenever you looked at it funny so that makes more sense, I've been there, it's annoying and there's no fix.
At work, my students and I use machines well over a decade old with demanding software and a requirement to keep several programs open (MS Office and otherwise) and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The dealer I just purchased my car from still uses a machine from the previous millennium with a dot matrix printer. If a business doesn't need the latest computers and software to accomplish their needs, they're not going to spend the money on anything current.

If Stuart's not listening to the lyrics (and why would he?) then Weird Al would be indistinguishable from the songs he's parodying. Unless Cooper's referring to one of his polka albums. In which case yeah that would be pretty weird.
The one that's playing is set to Piano Man, but his voice sticks out when he puts emphasis on a good joke.

I wonder what the generational divide is with being spanked or slapped by parents. I know it was something that happened when I was a kid but by the time my little brother was born public perception had shifted or something because I remember seeing him get away with a time out for stuff that I'd been corporally punished for at the same age and thinking "hey, what gives."

I don't think my parents were abusive or anything but I think they definitely just bought into doing things in the way they were familiar with at first. As I get older and can talk to my mom more frankly about her parenting philosophy I think she's proud of giving me and my brother a lot of freedom to explore and figure out what our own deals were and has some regrets about how much the way that parenting is "taught" has changed over the last decades and how she could have done certain things differently. I think it's definitely the case that for me the idea of laying a finger on a child is unthinkable and I think every parent my age that I know feels the same way-- I think that's an encouraging sign.
I wouldn't be surprised if the practice persisted regionally, especially in the South or rural areas.

I was spanked, but whenever I look back on corporal punishment, I see it as a complete failure to address whatever poo poo I was up to at the time.

I'd like to think with open resources and discussion that more recent parents see this too.

I dunno, but I'm sure it couldn't have happened since the Mystery Kids' time shenanigans gender swapped the entire band while they were fixing the time stream.
