Strange that she says "John's" instead of "your dad's" unless that's some short bespectacled adult friend of hers. Also Gene from Arlo & Janis should post recipes. ![]()

The Cul de Sac parents are probably the best parents on the comics pages, period. They're loving without being cloying, and whimsical without being stupid.

Johnny Walker posted:We should encourage him to use Garbage Pail Kids. We can lay a lot of sins at the feet of the new Mark Trail artist, but one of them is not understanding how three-dimensional heads work. Compare the shading in the first and second panels.

I think you said it perfectly. I would only add that the highbrow affectations associated with the strip and yes, its lust, is equally repellant; it's like Brooke can only sanction lust if it's appropriately cerebral (triggered by the right classical piece, for instance). I suspect that he would find the lust between say a cashier and a plumber to be disgusting.

I love how the kids in Skippy are like little old, slightly skeevy men. I feel like they'd know how run a craps game or something.

Addressing someone as "our Becky" or "our kid" (as in "come on, our kid, hurry up or we'll be late") is something I've only ever seen in northern English speech, like people around Manchester etc.

amigolupus posted:Yeah, because 6-year-olds tell their mom they have sexy legs to cheer them up. Brooke seems like he's able to hide his grossness in classic 9CL, but then you get poo poo like this to remind you it's always been there the whole time. Also the one where she tells Amos (paraphrasing) that they won't be a couple later in life because she doesn't think he would ever "bring her to rapture" ![]() My issue with the faces in Heart of the City are the goddamn noses, especially the rectangular ones.

Phil Fumble basically turned into a hunkier Archie Andrews. Re: "fat man" -- I watched an episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker which featured a "fat" woman along with the usual jokes about her eating all the cake and so on. The only way I could tell she was the "fat" one was everyone kept telling her she was. (she probably had a 28-inch waist instead of 25 inches) Does anyone else remember this? Kolchak would definitely have been sniffing around Gary's neighbourhood: Scary Gary ![]() ![]()

Julet Esqu posted:When I say that Team Evans may be trying to portray making nice with her abuser as the "right" thing for Tiff to do, I am not saying that I think the power of Tiff's kindness will make Anne come around, or that her dad will suddenly realize that Tiff is nice and Anne is mean and dump Anne, or that Team Evans will make it come out well for Tiff at all. Team Evans HATE giving Tiff nice things. I suspect this is one of those toxic "everything is JUST FINE" families where the person speaking up about being treated badly is a worse offender than the one doing the treatment; my parents were kind of like that. (If I complained about being physically hurt by my older and much larger brother, I was "hateful" for trying to get him in trouble.) It's the same logic followed by boomers and CHUDs who claim that pointing out instances of racism is just "being divisive" and "bringing race into everything". Anyway, here some characters who are SUPPOSED to be monsters: Scary Gary ![]() ![]()

I was born in the early 70s and got hit; FWIW my parents were born in the 1920s, and I agree on the whole "getting better at lying" thing. I also have severe anxiety issues thanks to my mother but that's a separate issue. ![]()
