I love A&J, and the relationship they have. I love Bad Machinery, Neil, and the Good Boy. I love Modesty Blaise and the justice that is about to be meted. And for all its absurdity, I love The Phantom: I super enjoy luchadors cracking fascist's heads. Classic Kevin and Kell (June 22-26, 1998) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Elysiume posted:Have insects been characterized as being fully sentient, or is this one specific slice of the hellworld that doesn't have overtly horrifying implications? Oh no, every living thing except plants (*) in the K&K universe is fully sentient. Even microbes and viruses. (*) With some exceptions that involve sci-fi shenanigans. You'll see when we'll get there.

Elysiume posted:Somehow the worst part of this response is that some plants aren't sentient, because I hadn't even thought about plants. Is the tree that the main family lives in sentient because of shenanigans, orrrrr I don't even know how to finish this question because the K&K world is so hosed up The very short version is: the Birdluminati have an Intelligence Beam that they can use to make people smart (or smart-er, as the case may be and it also has a reverse setting but don't think too hard about that because the implications are extra horrifying); if used on non-sentient living things, such as plants, it makes them sentient. The tree the family is living in isn't sentient right at this moment in time, but will later get accidentally zapped by the Intelligence Beam.

Elysiume posted:Was the beam used by mistake, meaning that they accidentally brought a sentient, immobile, borderline defenseless intelligence into existence, or was it intentional for some likely-contrived reason? I'll be more than content to get a high-level answer and wait for the actual storyline to pop up in the thread. Nigel, Miss Aura's son, was playing around with it, and it accidentally went off. It hit a few things, including the tree.

Classic Kevin and Kell (September 21-25, 1998)![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One more reason why Vin is The Worst: despite him having brought his misery on himself, out of jealousy he calls up what is basically this universe's version of the KKK to sic them on his teammates.

amigolupus posted:Is this the story where Lindesfarne uses DNA Magic to trick the racists that they're all descended from prey species? Close enough. Classic Kevin and Kell (September 28 - October 2, 1998) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This isn't too far-fetched, by the way: there was a racist who famously went on TV to have a DNA test to prove his "purity of blood" and when it came out that he had some african-american ancestors he was shunned by his racist "friends." Extra content! A look into the comments for these strips.
