Someone better at grammar than me: can "appeal" be used like that?

Here begins possibly my favourite section of this collection. There are quite a few cartoons on every page, so I'll be cutting them to more manageable sections.

The first strip uses the term "tittelinkipeä"; it means something like "hungry for a title" but the literal translation is "title-sick", to which the gagging in the last panel refers. I decided to just leave this wordplay out entirely because I couldn't figure out how to translate it. Also, I've never heard of the term "careerist" but my dictionary claims it refers to someone furthering their career while disregarding other things.

The jogging Virtanen's wife is doing in the last strip is sauvakävely, literally "staff walking" or "pole walking"; basically just going for brisk walks while using metal poles to get extra strength in your step(?) I'd imagine that this technic comes from how ski poles are used to support your speed & balance while skiing, but I don't know if this is a thing anywhere else or what the exact logic behind the poles is.

The third strip was a bit harder to translate because Finnish doesn't differentiate between "sleep" and "dream"; they're both uni. I could've used something like "It could disturb my dreams", I guess.

The expression of the person in the bottom comic made me somehow really sad as a kid

Apologies for quite haphazard posting; my mind has been preoccupied by a bunch of stuff.

Virtanen's knowing smile in the middle strip makes it feel particularly gross.

No ANSU today, I need to scan more pages.

Why does everyone refer to Misabel in the third person when speaking to her? No one ever calls her "you".

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that style of talking is meant to invoke an old-timey "talking to servants" tone; think of "Misabel" being used here kind of like one would use a job title. It might be a Finnish-ism (or Swedish-ism-then-later-turned-Finnish-ism) similar to the "our Pekka" -style of mentioning someone that was brought up in Mämmilä earlier.

Pretty much yeah. It's a very old-timey way of talking to / about / around the help which you could hear in early 20th century Finnish movies or books for instance. It's also how some people talk to (or used to talk to, at least) kids, and maybe there's a connection there, some infantilization of the help.

Yeah, when turning the phrasing around in my mouth it felt like it had a very distinct slightly belittling tone to it, but I couldn't quite get that to fit with Moominmamma, so I assumed it was a later connotation or somesuch.
