Things I've wanted to say since I first started catching up with this thread: *Bless the goon that inadvertently got James Allen to draw Mark Trail -- it feels like a second coming of Locher Tracy, which, as you all can tell, I enjoyed. *Somebody posted about disliking Zelda, and I wanted to agree with them at the time, but my opinion is basically on the negative side of indifferent these days. I wanted to reassure the person who posted about disliking Zelda by telling them about my unpopular comic-related opinions, but I think I'll save them for later. *Dethany is so loving UGLY it makes me sick. She looks like Nemi's dying grandmother. *Speaking of Norwegian comics, yay Pondus ![]() *In the Apartment 3-G arc where Tommie is an alcoholic, her behavior was basically indistinguishable from that of someone who might have been drugged. She didn't know where she was when she woke up, she sounded confused, she insisted that she hadn't had that much to drink (and the comic didn't show her drinking all that much either), and it weirded me out that everyone basically refused to hear her out. *Every time I read a 9 Chickweed Lane strip, I imagine all the characters' voices as Stewie Griffin. Also, 9CL is my favorite strip in the thread to hate-read (Funky Winkerbean is a close second). It is so loving disgusting and I can't get enough, seriously. *Tina from Tina's Groove looks like a young worried Sally Field. *I hate the following comic strip characters: Amos, Dustin's dad, Dethany's creepy boss, Bernice, the baby from Daddy Daze, Ruthie. *I love the following comic strip characters: Tildy & her wrestler "ex"-husband, Mopsy, Fleshy, the grandfather in Boondocks. Things I've wanted to reply to that I actually managed to save the quotes for, not necessarily in chronological order: Johnny Walker posted:Mary Worth I'm not going to lie -- I thought Dawn's plane was going to crash, because of irony or something. Evil Mastermind posted:Cul De Sac receives a warning of DOOM! The Uh-oh Baby is my favorite child character in any comic strip. ![]() EasyEW posted:Funky Winkerbean As someone whose name is Ursula, gently caress people who make stupid name jokes/references upon introduction. Pastry of the Year posted:Arlo and Janis Doing horny comics the RIGHT way. Bingo Bango posted:That's some pretty fair logic, but I think people still extremely into astrology. Coworkers at my last office job, all late-20s to mid-30s absolutely loved talking about their horoscopes on a daily basis. I think social media has had a major part in keeping the tradition alive. I'd argue that maybe (hopefully) people take them less seriously but who knows. An uncomfortable amount of my friends (like, double digits) take that silly garbage deathly seriously, to the point of blaming typos & missed emails on Mercury retrograde, whatever the hell that even means. I've seen people blame dating issues on negative behavior associated with their sign & the other person's sign, and blame crumbling friendships on the other person's sign. Last month I decided to take a break from social media, and not constantly seeing people circlejerk about astrology has been pretty great. ![]()

bad posts ahead!!! posted:this is probably sacrilegious, but, er, i don’t think “the far side” is that funny. i get that the comic was highly influential in its time, and maybe all the mediocre imitations that followed devalued it. still, the captions feel overwritten; they should have been edited down to be snappier. There are a lot of comics that are very popular in this thread that I can't imagine EVERYONE likes, and my theory is that people don't want to be negative in here. There are a lot of hateable punching bag comics in here, but there are definitely a few that I personally dislike that are seemingly universally loved to the point that I think people would be uncomfortable saying anything negative about. I could see Far Side falling into the latter category. Personally, I think it's okay. ![]() ![]() EasyEW posted:9 Chickweed Lane Amos is the Gary Stu-est character I've ever seen, fanfiction or not. Seriously, eeeeevery bit of dialogue by eeeeeevery character in 9CL sounds like it could have been said by Stewie Griffin. It's unsettling. Also, ![]() Stultus Maximus posted:because, despite all comics to the contrary, she has a better rear end than all the other models! followed by this quote:and let Ghulk get in on the action There is literally nothing there. Haifisch posted:It's generally cute and lighthearted, although it does have a problem with weeks like this where it's repeating the same joke over and over. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but the joke literally never changes. Phoebe and her unicorn friend are the least most annoying characters in the thread, by which I mean that while I don't like them, their competition is pretty stiff (Ruthie, Dustin's dad, the enunciating baby in Rose Is Rose, etc.). It is sweet that Phoebe's parents are kind and caring, but it seems common enough. Rex Morgan, Sally Forth, Mark Trail, and Alice's mom from that one comic are nice too. The parents that dislike their kids are SUPER vocal about it though. Parahexavoctal posted:Let's just say Brooke McEldowney's depravity knows no bounds. The comic is seemingly designed to be cute and LGBTQIA+ friendly. If "species has characteristic" is going to bother you, what's the point? This comic isn't even established enough to hate-read. fake edit: I described this comic as shallow at first, but it's early in the comic's run so having a bunch of introductory strips devoid of plot makes sense. Is the whole "Jeremy likes to eat a lot" thing a teenage boy thing or a Jeremy thing?
