The Cameo posted:CHIKARA is no longer a thing for good reasons in 2020. Sure. In 2020, Chikara Pro Wrestling begins its 21st season. The indie promotion spent its first several years building itself up as a goofy and dorky corner of professional wrestling. Then they spent a few years destroying all their good will. Since then, it's been a rebuilding process that's repeatedly shown promise. For the past couple years, it's really just been kind of... there. Not great. Not awful. Just a promotion that exists while spinning its wheels. A company once known for its outside-the-box storytelling is now resigned to telling 1-3 stories at a time while the rest of their talent just falls by the wayside. They spent a few seasons telling a pretty cool story about rockabilly brawlers feuding with a team of monster men and then practically gave up on everyone involved the moment the story concluded. The rebuilding of the Colony in 2018 was a cathartic and well-booked arc, culminating in their King of Trios win. Then a big pile of nothing in 2019. Even the title picture is virtually absent, despite Dasher Hatfield being a perfect choice to be top guy. Previously in Chikara... 2018 ended with Dasher Hatfield turning heel on longtime tag partner Mr. Touchdown. They burned through their storyline pretty quickly in 2019, ending with Dasher proving himself undisputed champion via a ladder match. Touchdown left the company (apparently a bit too banged up to wrestle for a while) and the angle pivoted to Dasher being a dick to his rookie son Boomer Hatfield. The rivalry between the two Hatfields dominated much of that year's Infinite Gauntlet match and turned into a mask vs. mask match. Boomer won that one, allowing the champ to lose his baseball mask and be a serious wrestler. Boomer tried to keep his distance since then, but family pressure led to the Hatfields teaming up at King of Trios, alongside cousin Molly McCoy (who is mostly a heel, but occasionally a tweener?). They lost the tournament, Dasher screamed at Boomer for it and that was that. Then Dasher defended the title a few times to close out the year. The big story in 2019 was the introduction of the Crucible. After having his company invaded/conquered every year or so by different factions, Mike Quackenbush decided that they needed a group trained specifically to stop them. Like a wrestling version of Age of Ultron. He gave the responsibility to Ophidian. Through creepy videos popping up on a YouTube channel and a series of short movies, we'd see that Ophidian's plan to protect Chikara was to start up a fight club cult based around brutal training and specializing in destroying your enemies as fast as possible. He was aided in this by Lance Steel and the Whisper, who it turns out are brothers. Quack found out about the Crucible and wasn't happy about it, causing Ophidian to lose his mind a bit. Ophidian's teammates and students started dominating Chikara throughout the year, including a Crucible team winning King of Trios. He also guilted Kimber Lee into joining the stable and while reluctant, she quickly fell into line as a full-on heel. On the other side of this, a trio of Crucible washouts have tried to act as spoilers to the faction. Quack brought in obscure wrestler from the early days Mobius as well as ZERO, the son of Chikara original Mr. Zero. The Whisper also broke away from the Crucible due to Ophidian brutalizing him before a title match for refusing to stand aside. As Chikara vs. Crucible continues to be the big story going on into 2020, Chikara's Director of Fun Sidney Bakabella decided to quit his position while also wiping the slate clean of all title points and Golden Opportunities. Well, now Jervis Cottonbelly will never get his title shot! Wrestling is Fun made its return. I don't know anything about it, since its website isn't fully working and their one show back isn't available to watch anywhere. But hey, it's another show I can't watch on Chikaratopia! Speaking of, Chikara ended the year with a mystery show. They gave extremely little info on it and wouldn't even say whether or not it was going to be streaming (it wasn't). The show ended up being a pilot of some sort with some thinking that Chikara was experimenting with a pilot for the WWE Network or something similar. Either way, it featured a lot of squash matches and tried to control how the fans cheered and chanted. Weird. The Chikara video game came out, though! That's neat! They're still adding updates to it over time, intending to release it on the consoles once it's deemed complete. There's also a phone game called Kingdom of Trios that's rather addicting. Anyway, Chikara. It's still around doing stuff. Somebody fucked around with this message at 03:57 on Jun 25, 2020 |

After that Beyond show, he took this girl back to his place and during sex, he began playing child and animal porn on his phone, claiming that's what he has to do to get aroused, but couldn't finish because "he was complaining that the videos weren't long enough". The week after, CPS was called to Rory's work because someone close to the girl had reported him.

I also came into this thread to see what CHIKARA was up to and thought the Fight Club angle was kinda neat sounding and then that. Not how I expected the wrestling drama of 2020 to start.

Even part of that being true would still be skeevy. I wish Chikara would stop with invasion angle or big faction vs Chikara angles.

On a lighter note, I tried out Kingdom of Trios and it's... okay? Looks like it was put together on a shoestring, its visuals are iffy and it's not easy to figure out what you're supposed to be doing in it, but, well... that's all kind of true to the CHIKARA spirit.

I attended a seminar/session today hosted by Quack and Bryce Remsburg about announcing/commentating today, and I was impressed by the accessible lessons and the insightful, easygoing teaching style. We got the chance to call a closed-session match each and Danjerhawk has added some flashy new moves to his arsenal. Also, after being part of the only 3-man-commentating group (thanks to an uneven number of attendees) while I still loathe most of the RAW commentary, I have a newfound appreciation of keeping anything like an even dynamic amongst 3 people, and I didn't even have a senile old guy yelling in my headset! Kinda lit a fire under me, tbh, where I went from thinking "okay, let's see how I like the idea" to "I would love to do this where an when I can".

So I know the Young Lions Cup is all about newer and new-to-the-fed wrestlers, so there hasn't been a ton announced before the show, but there's a 3 vs 3 match that I'm interested in. Quack, Jigsaw and Mobius vs E.M Demorest, Tunku Amir and Matt Murkowski - basically a Chikara Originals vs Crucible showdown... but, like, Quack and Jigsaw can but on good matches with nearly anybody. And Mobius... Mobius is there! And the Crucible members are the ones I've enjoyed the most in the ring. My favorite to watch in the Crucible group is Amir because while he's still new-ish, he just has the physicality behind his moves. Turns out that the martial he uses, Singafist? I thought it was a goofy Chikara invention but the name is real. There's also a tag match (non title) betwen the current champs Sonlo Darling and Willow Nightingale vs Hallowicked and Frightmare. I haven't seen much of Nightgale, but if anyone can point me to some good representative matches, that'd be cool.

Continuing to fiddle around with Kingdom of Trios on my phone. It's better than I thought; it's a match-3, so don't expect tremendous depth, but it's a decent don't-spend-a-dime diversion. The main problem I'm finding with it is that if you have a champion (Grand or CDP) and three-point contenders are also on your squad, the game assumes "well, you wouldn't want to do THAT match" and skips it. Thus, I have Solo Darling as as Grand Champ with 27 Events and 0 Defenses because my guys keep preventing anyone else from getting three points and challenging. Huckabee and Dasher have 36 Events, 1 Defense. I haven't found a way to relinquish a title yet, so I guess I have to lose matches on purpose. Also, the only way to unlock many wrestlers is to check off all the mastery accomplishments with another specific one (Win GC, Win CDP, Win Tag Grand Prix, Win King of Trios, Win Infinite Gauntlet and Win Cibernetico), so that's going to take a while to manage.

Yeah, I played that thing so obsessively that I maxed out every character that was available at the time. It's a really fun game when you can get past how confusing all the menus are. But yeah, you'll need to let the CPU characters gain enough points, then throw the title matches every now and then. Focus more on putting your guys in trios matches or facing jobbers.

Gavok posted:Yeah, I played that thing so obsessively that I maxed out every character that was available at the time. It's a really fun game when you can get past how confusing all the menus are. Unfortunately, I think i just ran into a logic error that's fried my game. Right now, I'm trying to unlock whoever I can, and the latest master-everything candidate was Merlok. Blank / Merlok / Crummels are KoT champs, Leary/Merlok are CDP champs, and I just won Infinite Gauntlet with Merlok and selected the Grand Championship Golden Opportunity to face Kobald (not on my team). But... Thief and Green Ant have three CDP points. So as soon as I selected the next event, it locked in Leary / Merlok to that match, and I'm stuck. No one else has 3 GC points, so no one else can face Kobald. No other teams have 3 CDP points. It won't let me forfeit the Golden Opportunity points for Merlok or bribe the Ants; I get "Can't do that, the match has already been booked" for each case. So I have a championship match that no one qualifies for and that I can't book. EDIT: Apparently I can just not book the GC match at all. Probably losing the points, but oh well. delfin fucked around with this message at 02:35 on Jan 12, 2020 |

When it comes to Infinite Gauntlet, I suggest just going for the "alternate reward." You get five recruitment tokens instead, which means more moves and upgrades.
