Like, massive meh.

That’s all part of its selling points. It’s a clunky slow and painful journey through the Russian countryside, delivering goods and collecting vehicles. Mudrunner and Snowrunner do better jobs with the metagame. Definitely doesn’t seem your cup of tea.

Yeah I'll shut up about it but it's a 6 year old game at this point and the systems are definitely way clunkier there than they are now after a few iterations. They give you a drat quest log in Snowrunner so you have things to do while getting unstuck and unstuck along the way and lots of upgrades for your trucks that generally make getting around less of a hassle while giving you tangible goals to work for.

The second time I subscribed with them they had apparently been sold to some Russian shell company and it was so impossible to unsubscribe that my bank decided to just close my bank account instead of trying to stop charges.

Yeah, while Spintires/Mudrunner was always on my "I'll probably buy this someday" list but never hit the top, Snowrunner's additional features make it something I'll likely buy day 1 it hits Steam. They jive with the way I want to play that sort of game - paying just enough attention while primarily focused on something else, with some sort of manageable meta-progression to make the failure stay fun.

I don't get it. I just kinda do this two or three times until it doesn't crash -- it only crashes at that point, too. Once the game is running it's fine. But all those loading and connecting messages take three or four minutes to get through. I know, I'm a millennial who can't wait three or four -- or six to eight -- or nine to twelve minutes but it's a loving nuisance.

Edit: Oh yeah, actually, the reason I posted this wasn't just to bitch about it. I was wondering if downloading a third-party patch that removes the need to connect to the Hitman 2 server will cause it to uh... you know, be "bricked" as it were. Flagged as stolen or something? Or is that connection to the servers actually necessary beyond high scores or whatever?

I think you can just turn Steam into offline mode? At least Hitman 1 supported playing offline and I would imagine 2 does the same.

I am pleased to announced that H:ZD has annointed my PC as blessed. 2 hard stutters right at the start of the game but that's about it. Little hitches here and there that got less and less noticeable as time went on. No immersion breaking fps drops. I only have a gtx 980, bless it's soul, and have no noticeable problems with most of the settings on high which is what the shader tool set them to.

Kind of both? You can play it as a very demanding management game where even a couple mistakes can lead to absolute ruin but there are also ways to make it easier on yourself. Making it easier on yourself involves possibly repeating some content that might be a little easy but at some point you begin to get a grasp on what choices to make for yourself and tailor the difficulty to you.

I thought it was very fun and it has a great sense of discovery. I did not finish it but I did sink like 18 hours into it in a week and will continue sometime in the future. If you are on the fence I'd recommend checking the let's play thread and the first 3 days of gameplay or so.

There's more than a few people on the Steam forums saying that their refund requests for Horizon: ZD are being denied despite falling within the 2 hour rule, because apparently the automated refund system is taking into account the dates of pre-purchases when calculating the refund period. That sounds like a fun little bug.

It seems like, judging by Steam reviews and my understanding of the tutorial, the basic goal is "collect energy to complete the day". You collect energy by prodding the SCP's in one of four different ways. SCP's have preferences to how they are prodded so there's some trial and error, but the more you prod them the more boxes you get and you can spend boxes to unlock the various categories of an SCP's info. Even if you don't get them wet or feed them past midnight though, the more you prod them the higher the facility meltdown meter ticks up and when it fills one or more of the SCP's will get a countdown timer. If you don't prod them in a way they like before the timer runs out, Bad poo poo can start happening. Bad poo poo can also happen for a number of other reasons related to preferences, RNG, and so on. Progression and lore exist as a series of Days of which there are a finite number, and you'll often have to reset a day if poo poo goes awry but if things are going really south and you're in too deep you may need to reset from scratch. You may need to do this many times. The silver lining is that you get to keep your research notes so you can be better prepared next time for when Zalgo starts erupting out of your employees' faces.

It's like Fallout Shelter: SCP Edition. The UI and terminology are a bit wack, but I think I like it so far.

Oh god, same poo poo happened to me with Sonic Mania. If anyone needs to know: Account Details > Purchases > find it in the list > I Have A Question About This Purchase. Explain the problem and request a refund in the text box there. For some reason that method specifically seems to actually ping a real human bean somewhere deep in the Valve complex who has a chance of actually approving the refund. You won't get anywhere by spamming the refund bot, believe me, I tried.

it only happens once as long as you dont quit immediately after the optimization + unskippable cutscene. If you quit when it boots you to the "start a new game" menu (say, to update your graphics drivers, or to mess around with video settings) then it wont recognize you've loaded already, and it will do the optimizing and cutscene again

I like the tactical combat system and the research tree a lot. The armour and penetration system is pretty neat. Ship sections have a grid of armour like they are a game of breakout, and wepons do different patterns of damage. Armour piercing is usually a lance piercing through to hit internal components, but doesn't do much damage to armour itself. Other weapons like enveloping torpedoes just melt large chunks of armour but not very deep.

Because of this you quickly develop different weapon loadouts for different targets. Small craft typically have shallow armour so AP isn't very useful, and because large ships have a flat reduction in damage on top of their ablative armour you can't use certain weapons against them effectively.

Also, you can run a fleet of torpedo boats as liir, fly away from the enemy fleet, then order a 360° turn and fire a huge volley of torpedoes at the enemy fleet just as your front faces them. It's incredibly satisfying to watch.

Shame about the planet sector system though, that one is rear end. And stations used to be dangerous in SotS but are completely useless in SotS2.

It seems clear that a lot of Horizon's port problems (though not all by any means) are due to poor memory management. It gobbles up all available RAM causing the game to bottleneck and stutter despite CPU/GPU not being under load at all. None of it seems unfixable, but if you can't wait, then I recommend setting a really aggressive threshold in Intelligent Standby List Cleaner so that your system doesn't poo poo itself whenever 12GB of memory gets dumped and reloaded at once.

Well, good to hear that it works fine at least for some folks. I guess that does nothing if not to confirm the rumors about the incredibly low quality of the port itself. When a port has seemingly random issues like this which are not really based on the specs of the system as such, it always speaks of shoddy porting work - not even just bad optimization or an engine that doesn't scale up very well, because that would hit everyone equally.

I think I'll personally just wait another six months or so before I give this a try. I don't have any patience for this kind of thing anymore.
