Ha, I almost posted that $10 seemed like the right price to find out if the graphics make me nauseous. That art style is very abrasive to me, at least in screenshots. Hopefully its ok because the premise sounds really cool

For myself, the only other things I have trouble with is VR, which can make me feel ill for hours, and stuff with strobing lights that give me very bad nausea and sometimes headaches. I get the same feeling with those that I do when I drive through a long tunnel with regularly spaced lights.

The screenshots made me think so as well at first, but I found it much more pleasant to look at in motion.

Yeah, minus the headaches it gives me, it actually does look much better in motion than you'd probably think from the still shots.

I hear you; I have migraines and it can be a trigger. For me, it made a big difference reconfiguring the game and my computer so that the POV didn't swing wildly with mouse moves, but I can easily imagine it being strobe-y as gently caress for some people.

One of the things that often goes with migraine is car-sickness. I can't play (much to my regret) either My Time at Portia or Slime Rancher for > 1/2 hour before triggering a migraine. I think it's that I can't zoom out enough.

It's not generic. It's from Sega owned Amplitude Studio's Endless universe, a setting for a bunch of strategy games, a roguelike, and even a visual novel (also free). It's meant to be a celebration crossover much like tomorrow's Streets of Rage + Yakuza.

Genthil posted:

I like CoH2's campaign a bunch. DoW3, though, it's... alright. It's a game that was panned for not being nowhere nearly as good as its predecessors and rightly so, but it's alright.

It's fun enough to play for a few missions. It's not the peak of the series - that was Dark Crusade - but it's alright. At 90% off, I think you'll get your money's worth out of it.

Is it enough of an improvement on Din's Curse to be worth a look at for a big fan of the old game?

I don't remember Din's Curse well enough to be able to judge, but it's an extremely competent ARPG that has some really weird systems that will be a ton of fun to crack. The way it's set up, you can become a slaughter machine fairly easy (which is helpful because combat is alright, but not great) and just tweak different settings to get the challenge right for you. Overall, I am happy with giving the $12 over, as I already got 4 hours out of it when I bought it

What kills it is that there's nothing to manage anymore. In Bomber Crew you have to manage your engines, you have to chart a course around hazards and defenses, long missions mean your bomber will take lasting damage that needs to be worked around. Space Crew's got none of that--it's literally just set your energy levels, jump to waypoint, wait for the turret battle to resolve, repeat.

i just finished an escort mission that took 30 real life minutes and yes, that's about right. it's interesting watching all the steam threads asking for more crew members; i agreed at first, but now i realize that the reason there's only six is to force the player to "keep the plates spinning". it worked in bomber crew for the reasons you said, but here that's mostly gone, and even worse is that your systems almost never fail (my O2 and shields have failed a combined 6 times in almost 7 hours), and worse still is that i've learned Evasion is the god stat. get the reactor that gives you 3 extra pips of energy, put them in the engine, and you've basically won.

crew replacements so far seem capped at level 3, no matter what your old crew was, and the backgrounds are now irrelevant because all crew members have the same stats as far as i can tell. most of the equipment is also redundant, because the best ones are probably enviroment masks, armor, and gravity boots. survival is paramount, so anything else is fluff.

and good god, the grinding is awful; missions are so long for such little gain whether in crew experience or space bucks and research points. in 7 hours i've also only seen two "anomalies" that gave extra resources.

this game needs some serious rebalancing

drkeiscool

also as a super minor nitpick: in bomber crew, flak vests and such had those cool models that actually got bigger and bulkier as they got better, and it really helped sell the "bomber crew guy wearing a bunch of WW2 armor to avoid horrible death" feeling. no such armor visuals here though

Din's Legacy is more of an iteration on Zombasite than Din's Curse, which is the way Soldak's fantasy games have worked for a while -- take the last one and build some new stuff into it. This means Curse had a simplicity -- "this is the town, there's the dungeon" -- where Legacy is baroque by comparison. I like them both.
