I dont know why this hasnt been done much, this makes a lot of sense and feels way more satisfying than most other HALT CRIMINAL SCUM systems you normally see in rpgs

Dev is hinting there might be a sale soon again, but its already pretty cheap. Hire crew, improve your space rock gobbler, learn the horrors of physics as you decelerate with your cargo door open and all your rocks fly back into space.

Which leads to a lot of blown up pirates and me scooping up their lifepods in my cargo bay to return for bounties.

This worked well until I basically splattered my ship across a giant asteroid while travelling at 150 m/s. After that I learned to use the autopilot assist way better.
