After watching some gameplay videos, Hades seems like the combat I've always wanted out of a Diablo-style RPG. Are there any other ARPGs that play like this?

to me Children of Morta feels very Diablo-y in its fight feel, more so even than Hades

it's a little divisive but i enjoyed it a lot, very chunky combat. apparently it's good in co-op but in my experience it's totally fine solo

Maneater is pretty fun, had one holy poo poo moment when I ran into an orca

e: you get a skill pretty early on that lets you survive on land way longer and you control like a bunrout car right after you crash, it rules

Maneater was extremely fun, worth the $30 with the egs sale for me. Underwater arpg with really good movement and fun moment to moment gameplay. Decent amount of 'puzzles' to reach some collectibles and none felt like bullshit or too obtuse to figure out. Might not appeal to folks bored of the ubi-style collectathon business but since the gameplay was plenty fun it didn't feel bloated or like a chore or anything. Like, one thing you collect is license plates which are usually suspended above the water and you have to figure out the best way to approach it to grab em, but they're kind of tiered based on your ability to launch out of the water which increases as you level up. Thankfully, you just get faster and stronger as the game goes on.

My main gripe is that I completely 100%ed the game just short of 13 hours, and I want more. It was a very, very fun 13 hours. I could see this being a sale darling whenever it hits steam. This was the kind of game that even while I was playing it I was like, drat, the sequel to this should be absolutely badass. Big recommend

Yeah re:Maneater that fear of the big wide open hasn't been something that's ever really bothered me but when I first got to the gulf my stomach sank for a second when I saw both how deep and how wide open it was

However, that quickly passed and I saw it more as like how big and wide open gta or far cry maps can be, but registering that you're underwater and That's OK took a minute to uh sink in. You get so big and fast though that it never bothered me a second time fwiw

Any recommendations similar to the Hero of the Kingdom series? I'm pretty naive to the point n click & hidden object game genre but I loved how I could play it at my own pace without time pressure, just kind of a chillaxed click and go adventure. I've played Dark Scavenger and it's pretty cool but not quite the same thing. Is hotk based off of like the King's Quest series?

Unfortunately I don't think there's actually much else out there with the same vibe. HotK isn't a traditional hidden object game nor anything close to a point and click adventure, really. It's more of a lite-RPG and resource management game I guess? There's probably a million old Flash games out there that play identically but other than that...

King's Quest is a series of spiteful old adventure games with zero similarities to HotK. Of that era and general style, Quest for Glory is closer to what you want, but even then it's not an exact fit.

Edit: Three games I would at least take a look at due to being very, very passingly similar are Forager which is a sort of an "idle game that you actually play", a super distilled down Minecraft kind of experience where you're always moving forwards at your own pace. The Clarus Victoria catalog is all worker-placement strategy games that are on a similar wavelength to the bread and butter HotK experience but from the perspective of running an entire tribe/nation/kingdom, with the caveat that there's fail states and you need to actively employ some strategy. And finally Graveyard Keeper which has the most complexity of the three, being a spooky Harvest Moon style game, but surprisingly has basically zero time pressure so you can chip away at it however you like.

Sounds about right, those hotk games are like crack rock to me. Forager and Egypt: Old Kingdom do have kind of similar vibes. Looks like I own some of the other Clarus games so I'll give those a shot

It's been mentioned but Loop Hero is so much goddamn fun. You can set when it auto-pauses, there's like building optimization that's kind of lite, and it's overall very forgiving. You're basically always making progress even if you wipe fast or unexpectedly. :10bux:

That rocks, is it capped at 30fps though?

I can't think of any single game in recent memory that I've been as stoked for as I am for skate 4, the 360 games were big in my friend group back in the day. Only a Prototype 3 release could top it for me right now

explosivo thanks again for posting about skate 3 on xcloud, I had a p good experience for a couple hours tonight and with gig cable in an old building wired over 100ft of cat6 it was surprisingly stable for ~70% of my in-game playtime, 10% was mega choppy until I killed steam & bandwidth hogs, 20% was too laggy to play but that was usually upon first boot. I finished a bunch of challenges & whatnot

Overall, I'd say if you already know how the skate series works & controls then the chop/lag shouldn't jam you up, I pulled off some sick lines and it was glorious
