K8.0 posted:Can't believe that there are still developers who think selling game music is a good idea. They should be looking at soundtracks as a way to generate interest and sell the product, not trying to monetize the 5 people who are stupid enough to grossly overpay for some mediocre music. I like videogame music because its mostly instrumental stuff, and I'm not a big fan of music with vocals.

K8.0 posted:Asking this here because the main thread is dead and seems spoilerrific : I've been playing Return of the Obra Dinn for about two hours and I decided to stop because I feel like I must be missing something and ruining the experience for myself as a result. After the tutorial, I've really done nothing but catalog obvious causes of death and pick out the names of two people that were made really obvious by them being called out, plus two guesses based on an age-related assumption. I feel like I must be missing something I should be doing, but I don't know what. Sometimes I see context I could maybe read something into, but I have no idea what internal rules the storytelling operates on, so I don't know if things are pointing to someone being in charge of something or an underling. It doesn't feel like the game is meant to be played this way, so I'm sure I'm either overlooking something or taking the wrong approach, but I'm not sure what. The key thing is to take everything into account. Almost every bit of info is some sort of hint. The game also expects you to make strong educated guesses, and very rarely does it give you concrete info that 100% confirms the identity of a person. Also, keep in mind that once you have identified 3 people correctly, the game confirms that you have done so.

Yeah, I started playing the series after Origins, and I don't feel like I was missing anything important. Both games have some brief stuff set in the present, but there is so little of it, I don't even know why they bother.

Considering that nobody who worked on the game worked on the original game, its essentially a fan-fiction version of Mass Effect.

Outer Wilds has taught me I have a deep phobia of Giant fish creatures hiding out in the fog waiting for you to make a noise. One thing I wish Outer Wilds had was a clock somewhere, I know you can sort of use The interloper as a clock, but I'd prefer an actual one

Bloodstained has a good map, which helps a ton with exploration. Hollow Knight makes you waste a badge slot to make the map usable at all, which you only get a very limited amount of. Bloodstained has some jank, and the setting/story is a bit lackluster, but I didn't regret the time I spent with it. I'd be interested in what they do with a sequel (with hopefully a little bit larger of a budget).

It definitely has some 2005ish design choices (and the worst of them, the health regen on bosses that needs to be stopped with specific moves, is actually new to the Kiwami version!) Yeah, that design choice is baffling, because not only do you need to save your heat move for the exact right moment, you also need to make sure you have the right heat skill purchased. Every other yakuza game, I have had no problem finishing, but Kiwami is a slog to get through.

Phlegmish posted:I feel like flamethrowers (while cool in real life) are inherently just kind of a boring weapon in video games. You can make the burning effects look impressive, but that's about it, most of the time your character is just standing there as you hold down a button. That's why I refuse to use the Drakegun as Bardin in Vermintide 2. Flamethrowers are just lovely versions of shotguns in game. Also, they usually aren't given enough ammo.

HopperUK posted:It's on sale again so it's time for me to enthuse about Lego DC Supervillains again. It's the same old Lego gameplay, light puzzling and combat, nothing too strenuous. But it's absolutely charming. Its open world, which you get access to very quickly, consists of Gotham (dark, rainy, ominous), Metropolis (bright, sunny, crowded) and Smallville (chickens, farmers). Every DC character imaginable is in here somewhere, either playable or just kicking around. The speedsters run *so fast*, I have no idea why you'd use a car, but if you want to, you can. The voice acting is delightful and the story is ridiculous. I can't praise it enough. I was enjoying the game until I encountered a game breaking bug where a checkpoint puts you into a situation where you can't progress. Its a known issue that hadn't been fixed for awhile when I encountered it. (This was awhile after the game had been released too.)

Occupation had a giant bomb quick look that made it look sort of interesting to play. Also, I thought Golf with your friends is a pretty popular game? The line-up seems actually pretty solid, it doesn't have any huge triple AAA game, but the rest of the game selection isn't padded out with cheap garbage nobody would ever be interested in playing. It doesn't surprise me that Humble would accidentally include an anti-vaccination book. The books in their humble bundles are almost always complete garbage.

il serpente cosmico posted:I just cleared Hades for the first time, and followed it up with two runs with different weapons, which were also clears. I enjoyed it, but I don't have much drive to continue playing it. The main problem, I think, is a lack of content. It could use more bosses (rather than the slim variations you get on floors one and 2), maybe some secret floors, etc. Compared to something like Enter the Gungeon, it just feels really light for this type of game. I felt the same way about Dead Cells. Each run ends up feeling too similar to the last. Yeah, I get that they are targeting the people who like to endlessly replay a rogue-like after they have beaten it once, but it feels like there is a huge grind to reach the true end of the game. After I beat one run legitimately. I turned on godmode and modded the broker so I could have infinite resources, but its still a giant hassle. I don't even want to imagine how long it would take if you are just playing normally.
