The 7th Guest posted:if you do origin access, they added sparklite, wreckfest and little misfortune I unsubscribed last summer because Game Pass PC has a better library overall IMO (and there were too many dire months in late 2018 and earlier last year where the main additions were old Star Wars games and indies like Gone Home that everyone on earth already owns), but they've been doing better lately. I'll resubscribe to the Basic tier next year whenever they add Jedi Fallen Order.

RBA Starblade posted:Shadow Warrior 1 was great then kept going, and going, and going and just slowly got more and more tedious the combat mechanics are fun but the level design commits a laundry list of sins (levels that are just complex enough in their layout to make the lack of a map extremely frustrating, traversable paths that fail to visually stand out from the scenery, gated combat arenas that aren't visually indicated as such so I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why a door wouldn't open before I realized that there was one enemy I hadn't killed yet)

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills given its Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, but A Hat in Time just hasn't quite clicked with me. It's extremely charming and the parts of it that work well are really fun, but there's something about the camera, checkpointing, and level design that feels off enough to make me want to play something else after completing the first two worlds (and part of the third). I... may have enjoyed Yooka-Laylee (post-patch version) more, even with its considerable flaws. Maybe I'm just not in the 3D platformer mood right now, idk Barry Convex fucked around with this message at 20:14 on Feb 27, 2020 |

John Murdoch posted:While I enjoyed A Hat in Time*, it suffers due to every level being a totally different unique thing. Mafia Town is a really solid interpretation of the Mario 64 formula and then they promptly throw that format in the garbage and never return to it. honestly, the game bothered me from the very beginning, when you have to reach Mustache Girl in the bell tower - there's more than one way possible to get up there, but the objective only triggers if you get up there one specific way, which I didn't find to be that clearly telegraphed, meaning that I was very confused when I reached her and nothing at all happened. not a good sign if I have to check a walkthrough to see if the game is bugged that early

just finished playing Doom 2016 for the first time. It’s very good but unfortunately falls short of great. Combat/traversal mechanics are mostly excellent, but feedback from attacking enemies is oddly lacking, and the level design is bland both artistically (levels come in a grand total of two flavors: bland futuristic industrial facility or bland rocky hellscape) and mechanically (there are some bits of interesting platforming here and there, but you’re mostly just getting funneled from combat arena to combat arena, and the game runs out of new weapons and enemy types a decent ways before the end) Fortunately, Eternal looks like a substantial improvement in every way.

Trials of Mana demo is pretty fun, though definitely too easy and fairly obviously made on a modest budget (albeit still much higher than Secret of Mana 2018). Not sure how it'd hold up for 20+ hours, but I enjoyed it, and your progress does transfer to the full game.

Although I don't expect exclusives from last year make it in. it would make no sense for Horizon to be a one-off, unless it bombs on PC, which seems pretty unlikely. they probably already have more belated PS4 ports in development regardless of whether or not this particular leak is fake

I know it's got endless positive reviews, but I thought it was repellent. Gonna cleanse myself by playing something with a more nuanced take on the death of innocents. Brigador, maybe. I loved it, even if I don't think the overarching story sticks the landing as well as the individual vignettes do. YMMV, though.

Quill posted:I had the same reaction. Mad Max kept my attention all the way through, even with all the side activities. All its flaws were easily seen and experienced, but still... it held up. Mechanically and story-wise, it was pretty good. Also, it was one of those games that inspired you to take a thousand screenshots. Mad Max is fun, but it pushes the side objectives on you so aggressively that I got tired of it long before I was anywhere near done the main story. might come back to it at some point, though

On Chapter 7 of Yakuza 0, and I increasingly get the feeling that I may not finish it; the combat is fun, albeit repetitive, and the side stories usually strike just the right balance of gameplay-to-story without taking themselves too seriously, but it's just so loving long, with too many cutscenes and not enough variety in the gameplay. wish it were about half as long as it is

Gort posted:Yeah, I'd say Yakuza games in general often suffer from too many trash fights that aren't actually challenging. Apparently the "Goddess of Children Amulet" item is supposed to lower the number of times you get stopped on the street, but it's hard to see a difference. It's true of the minigames as well, stuff like Hostess Club tends to have too much gameplay between the story points in it. I don't really mind the random battles in the streets, I mind that there's very little real gameplay to speak of outside the combat and that the cutscenes are ridiculously long in the main story missions. I just got to the part where the cabaret/hostess stuff is introduced, and that doesn't seem like it's going to be much fun based on the tutorial. I'll stick with it for at least a bit longer, but eh. if the game were only 8-9 chapters rather than 17, none of this would be as much of an issue

No Wave posted:I hated the hostess minigame. Just skip it if you don't like it, you don't have to do 90% of the content in Yakuza 0 - the main story isn't that that long so I'm guessing you're doing too many side quests. I actually like the side stories better than the main story, tbh

Wolfenstein II is leaving XGP in a week and a half, so I guess I should play it. It's better than The Old Blood, right? TNO was good but didn't care for what I played of TOB very much also, Rakuen is really good, even though I don't care much for RPGMaker and wish it ran on a more modern 2D engine like Unity or GameMaker
