Home Alone was supposed to be about Buzz's tarantula having the house to himself over Christmas but the tarantula was extremely difficult to work with, often showing up to the set drunk and being openly disrespectful to virtually every single member of the cast and crew except Joe Pesci, who he "grudgingly respected". Surprisingly few script changes were required to make Kevin the main character.

Much like Harrison Ford ad libbed the line "I know", the special effects team ad libbed the entire death star trench run from the first movie. Lucas was furious at first, preferring the original draft where Porkins does a kamikaze run to blow up the ship, but was convinced to leave it in.

Clint Eastwood’s famous Dirty Harry line about his .357 Magnum had to be reshot over a dozen times because Eastwood refused to read the line as scripted. Eastwood kept reading the line as “THIS IS MY BIG loving GUN AND I LOVE IT, I’M GONNA loving CUMMMMMMMMM!!!!!” Finally, he was allowed to say it just to keep production moving. The well-known scripted line was later dubbed in for the theatrical release.
