I do this. every time I get a new piece of software, I throw a big prime number in the time signature and work back from there |

szkud posted:this one weird trick that drives drummers crazy! why does it need to be a prime number? are you a wizard? i don't even really know what a time signature is, but one time something wouldn't loop right until i changed it to 3/4 and i liked it a lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVt7olvKCHs

owlhawk911 posted:why does it need to be a prime number? are you a wizard? i don't even really know what a time signature is, but one time something wouldn't loop right until i changed it to 3/4 and i liked it a lot A time signiture just tells you how many of what kind of beat per measure. So if something is in a 4/4 time signature it means there are 4 (this is the top 4) quarter-notes (this is the bottom 4). Time signatures that are divisible by 2 and 3 are "pleasing" feeling. Non-symmetrical time signatures and sigs with groups of 3 that are larger than 6 can feel off putting but when you find a way to make them groove can be extremely cool. https://giant.gfycat.com/SizzlingThickIbis.mp4 |

Literally A Person posted:Okay, this grooves so loving hard I think I'm having an aneurysm and my nose started bleeding. 11 is fun when you do it naturally. stitching a two bars of 3 on a 5 is a good way to start, but not letting it become it's own thing is a bad feel. I like to think of it as a long breath with a quick inhale 69/420 would be 69 420th notes per bar. the notes per bar are even, so it can be reduced. the largest natural signature divisior is just four, so it'd be a 105th of a fourth note. 69 is divisible by three so 23 over 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. would have the same rhythmic structure as 69/420 6/9 at 420bpm would be 6 9th notes per bar and very quickly. 9th notes aren't natural though. no natural signature is divisible by 9 at least up to 2048th notes |
