I'm one of the many many many trans people who read/watched ranma 1/2 in their youth and thought "How is that a curse" and "Oh how wonderful would it be if my shower suddening started expelling spring of drowned girl water"

And yeah, while I have soft spot for Day and stuff like it, stuff from that period 99-03 usually just flirted with non het stuff a bit and had a few jokes. I think its interesting that the manga that revolved around an intersex character and a transition was originally conceived as a "isn't life strange" gimmick. Though I'm pleased intersex readers at least found it comforting and the author responded positively.

Anyway, I breezed through Liberta, a web manga about a put upon office worker and her gothie vampire heroine who sweeps her off her feet, kills monsters and beats up harassing managers.

Do you mean the "Girls with Guns" trilogy of anime (afaik they don't share a setting but they do share some similarities and even some staff, including writers, director, producers and even music composer in Yuki Kajiura)? Which are Noir, Madlax and El Cazador de la Bruja. Because yeah, there is plenty of subtext and plain-old text about wlw in all three.

If you mean guns anthropomorphized as girls, that's Girls' Frontline, which has a thread in the Mobile Gaming Sub-Forum but you can also inquire about here since a lot of ADTRW regulars play mobile games.

Yeah, it was the girls with guns thing

Himegoto is trashy af and I like it. It does get weird in places though.

Something I was going to post in the 'suggest a manga' thread like, years back but ended up not doing because I figured people would get me weird looks:

https://mangadex.org/title/6497/bokura-no-hentai

Bokura no Hentai. It's about three boys who crossdress for various reasons (One is trans, the other two are... Harder to sum up). Also pretty soapy and good.

i loved bokura no hentai

Generally when I see people use 'anime' as a descriptor, it is used in a pejorative way, to say "it's too zany, too wacky and exaggerated, too much fanservice, too many anime tropes, etc": it's why I tend to avoid using it as a descriptor in general. It's also just really imprecise and leads to misunderstandings, so it doubly sucks.

Yeah this, basically. It's just my personal preference, but the styling and humor and whatnot of Akanesasu shoujo just doesn't jive with me. There are plenty of other things that do that are equally 'anime' so I tend to focus my attention on those

I mean that could not be further from Sayo yamamoto's way of rolling so not the case here but it's cute

Ahhh, is that so? I thought I had read it was an order from on high, but that honestly sounds much better lol. The other big thing is yes, they bought engagement rings, but iirc the show seemed to go out of it's way to avoid referring to it as such, as though it's providing plausible deniability.

How often do people buying engagement rings go 'this is an engagement ring that i have bought because I am romantically attracted to you'

How often do they go 'this is a good luck charm'?

I don't even know why this is being argued over; Yes, the word of the creator is that they are gay, in love, etc but it's not exactly controversial that there are people (beyond me) who see a superficially ambiguous presentation.

quote:

ike its totally ok to not enjoy how a relationship is presented or whatever but like painting it as "this was about plausible deniability/a need to undercut its explicitness" the framing that devalues this thing you like

Not really, tbqh. But seriously, why are yall going after me so hard here and acting like its so controversial that I'd like to see a version of Yuri on Ice where it was a bit more affirmative that they were in a relationship? Like... Yeah, I am 'forcing' ambiguity on it-- that's how I am reading it. You, quite obviously, have a different reading 'forcing' unambiguity on it and that's ok! Different people have different viewpoints! That's how media analysis works!
