I'm using the default audio settings on OpenShot Video Editor. The problem is the audio I used for my inserts, which I recorded on my iPhone. They sound fine when you play the files, they sounded fine when I was working with them in the editing software, and some of them sound like I recorded them using an old McDonald's drive through intercom, but some of them sound fine. So they're insanely inconsistent.

I have no idea what's going on and I'm worried I'm going to have to re-record the audio. It be annoying.

I have a mic, I used a mic.

I fixed the problem. Apparently the Apple audio format didn't take kindly to the conversion process when I exported the final video, so I had to convert the files and edit those in.

I'm back on track.

FOR THE WIN FOR THE WIN FOR THE WIN

Good job dude. If you have the knowledge, or willing to get it, the rest comes with experience.

I thought it interesting about the part with the "captive key" in the stock, and armory vs arsenal.

The idea of muskets is pretty interesting. I have many questions, you could probably make them into videos. Why were they so long? What was the Kentucky Longrifle about? Were muskets blued? What was the crazy procurement strategy during the Civil War, especially for the South? Were did they get powder from?

Somebody awhile back had some cool posts about flints, stuff like that.

Wondering about the bluing question, I found an interesting article on browning/bluing, with recipes and historical discussion about soldiers being obsessed with polishing their rifles. Not very tactical!

As someone who knows nothing about muskets, I liked this. Might want to check out Audacity in order to normalize your audio. Its free, pretty easy to use.

For your hard cuts, especially when you were showing the two muskets, you could've spliced both, one over the other. Not sure why your audio was spiking at the 6min mark segment. Might want to cut your do-overs as well

Awesome job man, cool video. Only critique I'd have is some closer-in shots or some slow pans over the subjects would be good, with the pictures it's hard to see detail, and for the uneducated such as myself I'm not sure what I should be looking at.

Very true - although the only bad thing about Forgotten Weapons are the occasional shots where he’s clearly trying to cover all of a very long gun by “painting”, waving the camera over it. Makes me a bit seasick. It’s a good use case for a gimbal or improvised dolly.

As I get better I'll probably start doing a two-camera setup. Possibly with some kind of pointing device that is distinct and separate from C&Rsenal's Patented Plastic Pokey.

As you mentioned going to a two camera set up later, you can start filming B roll now with your one camera instead of static images to do voiceovers for at times to cut to to help hide your do overs

Well, right off the bat I can tell you that the ramrod isn't original: It's a US Model 1861 ramrod. But the ramrod could very well be a period replacement, and it looks original. I'd have to hold it in my hands to be sure, though.

I am very appreciative of all the photos the seller posted. A couple things stand out to me. The stock repair is noted and a little obvious. The front lockplate screw looks like it's been peened. And the fit of the lock both in the stock and with the bolster (the protrusion on the barrel that the cone screws into) look suspect to me, like perhaps the lock isn't original to this musket.

All the parts look correct but the whole looks a tiny bit off. But everything does look correct for a Birmingham made Enfield. You'd have to take it apart to confirm whether or not the parts all belong together.

Yes. The camera's mic is being used for the outtakes reel because I don't feel like messing with syncing it twice.

Also I have a longer version of the outtakes vid available through Patreon. Just sayin'.

Hey Mcnally the only feedback i would leave is to pace yourself a little more. You seemed like you were almost breathless a few times trying to get the information across. It may help with some of your tongue-tied spots. When I stopped trying to get all the info out as quick as possible when public speaking it helped me with that. Other than that it was good and I wouldn't worry about jumps in audio quality as much, FW still had noticeable bumps in quality with a much more expensive setup when he goes to different angles.

Well done, and even though muskets aren't my usual interest in firearms I'm looking forward to more

Gunshow report: Middle of nowhere, South Dakota

-Four or five Swede Mausers, from $480 to $700 all in decent condition.
-Lots of P17s (no P14s) but holy poo poo, they were asking $1000-$2000 each.
-Same with Springfield 1903s. Prices are just stupid on them.
-Saw one Obendorf G98 for $700, which I thought was a decent price. I was a few hundred short or I would have walked out with it.
-Lots of milsurp pistols (P64, Romanian Tokerav, etc.) for $300-$400 each.
-One guy had a bunch of Euro pocket pistols and I might have picked up the French MAB D but the grips were lovely modern replacements and I can only imagine how much originals would cost.
-Something I have never seen before, at a table where the guy hung big signs that said "Democrats, Commies and Socialists are not welcome to shop here" he was taking offers on an M1 Carbine. You wrote down a number and he'd call you back. In all my years I have never seen that, seems really awkward. There were no carbines under $1300 with most being closer to $1700.
-Maybe Cyrano can chime in here but I almost picked up a German pre-war .22 trainer for $450. Pretty sure it was civilian because it didn't have a full stock. Neat little gun but I wasn't sure on the price or the pedigree.

I was, and shouldn't have been, amazed by the number of trump dorks there. Most had hats and cringe worthy gun shirts and all were firmly in the boomer category.

I picked up two pairs of vintage shooting glasses for $5 each, complete with cases for my Walter Sobcheck costume this Halloween. Personally I think I scored the best deal in the show.

Depends on what it was, but assuming it was your typical pre-war .22LR it would have been a pretty decent price. If it was made by Mauser that is pretty low and a really good price. There are some trash brands too, but honestly you'd be able to tell it was trash just from looking at it.
