Well, the Yugos also refurbished K98ks so it's entirely possible it was an honest mistake on their part. Might be worthwhile to contact them for a replacement.

Looks like the stock has been sanded and polished as some milsurp collectors were want to do back in the 50-00s.

Also, sup '18 production Remington Buddy.

Seems like a pretty decent deal, although I'm a little concerned about the bore condition.

Yeah, that looks like a sanded stock. You can see where the high points have been taken down, and that high shine is possible by using ever finer grit sandpaper and finishing it off with oil.
I did some askin' around and if it's true milsurp, it's a Brazillian pistol that's had its side plate removed so it's entirely possible the stocks got a severe case of jungle rot. Otherwise, it's a commercial gun that's been rode hard and put up wet.

Surplus M1 stocks aren't hard to come by at the moment.

That said, I don't hate the CMP reproduction wood in the slightest. It's nice that it comes stamped from a government agency and gives your gun a little provenance. Of course, I'd try to get some surplus wood together so you can have yourself an OG playset too.

You're right, but damned if I can find the angle on this one.

Like. . . Mitchell's Mausers is exactly what you are describing. Put an add in NRA mags and sell a humped RC K98k or Yugo mauser as a "just discovered warehouse of Nazi mausers." Middle aged gun dad reading the mag thinks nazi guns are cool, knows the third reich, and wants a piece of that. Presto, you just sold him a RC K98k for 5x what it's worth.

Same with indian arrow heads and roman coins. My dad loved old westerns as a kid and would totally fall for the arrowheads. My father in law is a history dork and would absolutely mail order some old roman coin for 4x its actual value because he doesn't know the actual cost and "hey, it's a coin like Jesus might have used."

But Ethiopian mausers? Does NRA-mag dad really give that much of a poo poo about Ethiopia?

Anecdotally it felt like my m1903 with Greek HXP m2 ball kicked worse than a K98k with 50s era Yugo.

That yugo stuff is so damned inconsistent though. I've had some rounds feel like squibs and other rounds knock dental fillings out.

Well insert any other surplus 8mm that isn’t the crazy hot Turkish poo poo you want. Long story short I find that your typical surplus 8mm is ballpark the same recoil as .30-06. Any differences always seem way more dependent on the platform and how much it weighs and if it had a gas system, and if so what type.

Frankly there’s more of a perceivable recoil difference between my fn49 and garand firing the same m2 ball than between my 1903 and k98ks.

Meanwhile a full sized g98 tames it all the way down.

Huh. Been a while since I've shot 8MM out of anything besides my K98AZ.
