Sad to say, nobody gives a poo poo about Snipes-blade. Marvel has had the blade film rights since 2012, three years after the company was bought by Disney, which easily gives it the most disproportionate ability to "compete" with a trilogy of films that were only ever modest box office successes for their budgets. The reason they waited until after Black Panther to announce that they were going to be "integrating" Blade into the MCU is because they were literally waiting to test whether or not a black-led blockbuster superhero movie could do Avengers numbers, not just B-tier action-horror flicks numbers.

It's because he's black. They will gladly fund Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, and Guardians of the Galaxy before even touching Blade because, in as obscure as those heroes are, Blade's mere blackness and adjacency to more 'urban' action cinema (as well as dyed-in-wool horror) makes him even more niche in their eyes. Let's even just take Blade Trinity out of the equation - the trepidation isn't over their ability to compete with a franchise that ended for most people almost two decades ago, now. They're just figuring out how to "Marvelize" the character.

From what I understand they're only doing Blade now because Mahershala kept calling them about it

Someone earlier asked what I'm seeing at Sundance and I'm apparently see these

And like 7 shorts programs (I think...let's see 1, 3, 5, New Frontier, Midnight, Doc Shorts 1 and 2...okay it's apparently 8)

Kind of a weak year but I got most of what I wanted. The only bigs ones I'm missing are the second features from both Sean Durkin and Benh Zeitlin but I'll see what I can do.

I'm jealous and would jump at an opportunity to go sometime, but reading those descriptions I can see how sometimes just-OK movies get massively overhyped out of Sundance. Finding a movie that actually works in that sea of big swings must be exhilarating

If you have a code to a movie it lets you watch them across several services, such as Apple, Amazon, GooglePlay, Youtube, Microsoft, Vudu, etc

All old UV codes are accepted by Movies Anywhere

It seems none of the codes that had expiration dates on them actually expired

This is pretty cool

I wonder if you can still buy UV codes for like 50 cents on eBay

I've been going through best-of-the-decade lists and man The Look of Silence and Faces Places would make an excellent double feature with their focus on reconstruction of reality, vision, and truth and relationships. One extremely upsetting, one extremely charming.

I'd put Act of Killing there too but I think watching it on the same day as Look of Silence may kill a normal person.

Anyone else have some good sad/happy thematic pairings? I think it's a great way to look at how similar themes can be so differently treated.
