I remember when the community raised a shitload of money during Katrina, which Paypal pulled the plug on. But what plug wasn't being pulled, was the forums, which there was a live thread on the status of. If I recall, it wasn't until after the hurricane, and after the levies broke that the executing DR plan of hosting in a hurricane disaster zone started to break apart. Impressive in retrospect.

I Think My Wife is Buying a Strap-on aka The Epic of Frankie I miss threads like that. The pre e/n days when there were stories that were just badshit enough to be believable until the OP went "THE PRESTIGE!" or managed to actually show how broken people are. Some girl who thought her boyfriend was addicted to WoW but in reality she was the greatest doormat to ever live. Worked something like 4 jobs, served him meals in front of his computer and even hosed him while he played. Every goonlords dream and it turned out to be true. There was some guy like 1ft Ant or something that did a bunch of these featuring his lunatic son who earnestly believed he was a super saiyan.

Hellbastard had a regular webcomic he made about a zombie pirate named hellbastard. It was... ehh. Not great. The whole thing was sort of a self-insert story (he was a whole skeleton and later just a floating skull). GBS 2.1 decided he was awful and dogpiled his thread, and his response was not great - the whole gamut of rolling-with-the-punches, puppetmaster defense, etc. very familiar to folks who were still wishing that helldump was around and were treating GBS 2.1 as helldump-lite. Did I miss mention of Zaurg, Prime Archfiend of Bad Financial Decisions and Tantrums, on my brief skim? Or is he more like an epic than a saga, with five (?) threads over ten years? How about the goon that had his kid taken by CPS because he lived in a dilapidated mobile home with filth everywhere and rotten sections of floor that you could conceivably fall through, and his first action after the kid was taken was to post asking how he can sue CPS? Said goon and wife realized they were filth elementals with broke brains, got their lives together, and were reunited with their daughter. Mark it down as a win!

Compared to all the things goons got up to over the years the one that has a special place in my cold dead heart is the pirate rap group that came out of here like a decade or more ago. They seemed pretty innocent and almost wholesome even if the whole premise was a bit dorky. Weren't they booed off of some TV talent show? I wonder if they're still doing the gimmick somewhere out there.
