There was also the guy who baked to death in his car after taking some (he had already hit a psychotic state while on it and terrified his wife enough with a gun that she had fled the home with the kids).
Iirc that wasn't joose, I thought it was way later than joose. Iirc I think it was just opiates or maybe a shitload of Imodium or something like that.

What happened afterward was the wife came on and posted about his death, and some goon quickly replied like "sooo he owned me drugs [maybe money?], can you send me that now?"

aeglus was the short cute one who taught English in Asia. He looked great, but he definitely put a lot of effort into it and people dunked on him. There was also a tall gangly one, iirc from the UK (e: wait I think Scandinavian!), who iirc was very into military surplus stuff and got dunked on a lot

I can't find the thread, but there was a memorable scandal in one of the old E/N fabgoon or trans threads. A poster came in and made an impassioned plea to get people to write letters or donate or spread the word to help this imprisoned trans woman who was being treated as the wrong gender in prison and had attempted suicide, etc. Disadvantaged person getting chewed up by the US system, common, but sad. There was an initial outpouring of support and then like 10 pages in someone actually looked up the person and found that they were in prison for like 20 counts of raping their own child and filming it for people on the internet.

The OP already knew this, but genuinely did not seem to understand why this should have been disclosed, or why it made the person less sympathetic. I've always been mystified by this one because the US criminal justice system really sucks. If you want an example to push people to recognize that, it can't be all that hard to find a trans person in the exact same position, except their crime was like: "having a bunch of weed".
I don't think this was a SA thing specifically. In like 2010-2015 there were a bunch of letter-writing campaigns for imprisoned and mistreated trans women of color, and because it was obv all grassroots, there was obviously nobody like officially okaying who was chosen, it was just whoever got popular on social media. I don't remember child rape specifically but it turned out a lot of them were in for murder or rape. While that obv doesn't justify their abuse in prison, I think it did contribute to those letter-writing campaigns not being such a thing anymore.

I asked this a couple times in the old sagas thread and only a few people vaguely remembered it, but maybe I'll have more luck in the new sagas thread!

Many years ago there was a thread, I'm 90% sure in GBS version 1, about someone teaching in rural China, and somehow he was doing an assignment where the students had to write questions that they had for LGBT people, and he posted those questions in the thread. The questions were about what you would expect from a rural conservative society with no sex education and only second- or third-hand experience with openly gay people, stuff like "why did you choose to like men" or "aren't your parents angry you won't give them grandkids" or "I read that gay people get AIDS, aren't you worried about AIDS?" Innocently ignorant stuff. This being the bad old days of GBS there were plenty of earnest replies but there was also a very vocal minority posting "hey OP, give this to your students: 'dear student, how loving dare you. How can you be so stupid, it's not our job to educate you ...'" I think the thread was closed or gassed because it devolved into a slap fight.
I think there might have been a couple of these threads. At least one was in A/T.

Iirc like 75% of the answers were positive, but of the anger there was, I think the focus of the irritation was less "gently caress your students" and more "why are you making us write this instead of just telling them we don't all have AIDS?"

When the video came out, he got a year of paid suspension. Then after his vacation, he went back to work as a judge for 2 more years before being defeated in an election. He didn't face any charges due to the statute of limitations. Today he's a lawyer in private practice. He specializes in family law.

Last I knew, she married him, he was still an enormous rear end in a top hat, she cheated with their mutual best friend, mutual best friend ended up not wanting a relationship, she went back to rear end in a top hat husband, they decided to fix it by having a baby, she conceived but miscarried

I hope she left since then because gently caress that guy.

I was literally reading those threads when that was first posted. The phrase has really stuck with me and its basically what made me quit reading LF entirely. I cant tell you exactly how much it was posted/emptyquoted, but it was more than one thread, it went on for pages. It was genuinely sickening. Folks had hosed up leftism till they had anime villain reasoning.

Related, pretty sure TS12 was an LF poster, but they suicided (see loving above) after getting in a fight with a cop at a party, not because of womens rights. They just put in their suicide note that ppl would be well served taking a gender studies class, they didn't yell "Read Dworkin ya'll!" and yeet themselves off a bridge.
It was one specific bro of his that he recommended a class to, not the world afaik. But yeah it was because he was freaking out about the cop thing and thought his life was over

None of the catladies were turned on by other catladies afaik. It was regular male goons who harassed off Ozma (chubby! porn that looks like her!) and Eggplant Wizard (wrote porn! doxable!) and so on.

Not (e: WrenP-Complete) who posts now, her username was literally "wren"

It was a long time ago, but from what I remember, obviously she was going through a lot of poo poo, and she took it out on people here a lot. And stuff like going into threads and being like "how can you care about [topic of thread] when I'm dying"

Again, going through a lot, obviously sad when anyone has terminal cancer, but. I also didn't "know" her before she had it, though.

At SA's peak, there were so many goons and they were so good that they dominated basically everything. One summer I was really into a very silly game called Puzzle Pirates, and there was a goon guild and it dominated. Goons were everywhere. And of course they destroyed and griefed their opponents, which didn't build goodwill

I mean that's definitely a thing, but like Revenge of the Nerds and the other stuff was 1980s. At this point it's 35 years old, so I'm not sure how much it influences kids today. The most recent example I remember is the Love Actually cue card guy, who everyone makes fun of, and Love Actually was 2003. Romcoms aren't such a big genre anymore. Are you guys still seeing it in current stuff -- like the last ~5 years?

Since when did you think this ever stopped? It's literally been the standard formula for romcoms and romantic subplots in everything from sitcoms to action movies to anime as long as all of us have been alive.
The big romcoms I remember from the last couple years are Isn't It Romantic, The Big Sick, and To All the Boys I've Loved Before, none of which really have a plot like that.

But obviously there's a lot of stuff I haven't watched or seen, which I'm asking about. Pentyne has a great example
