I'm fine with mods being a bit partial and making some 'objectively' inadvised personal judgment calls every once in a while. I always associate 'shyster' with the early Marx Bros radio comedy Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel, which is good, unlike trying to make words into slurs just because they might sound like one, which is bad. Not to say that there isn't a certain type of person who derives a large amount of pleasure using such words and then grins widely when they get to correct the people on their lack of refinement and education when someone takes umbrage with dropping 'niggardly' into a conversation as if it was an everyday word, which is also a bad thing.

I think that SA graduating from edgelord atheism to a reasoned stance on religious experience is a bit of a saga itself! Of c ourse, it tends to be a function of people aging. To overshare a bit, I have personally encountered the enormous positive effect of the Christian faith in people around me and have again become somewhat observant as a result after describing myself a decade or so as 'firmly atheist'. Part of my own path was affected by the way insistent atheists always seemed to be the most annoying people around. The whole atheist movement has recently started to drift to the alt-right, with people describing themselves as 'logical rationalists' constantly spewing hateful conspiracy theories about jews and muslims. The uncompromising negative attitude towards an important aspect of the human experience seems to lead people down some dark paths. e: ach, again starting poo poo in the sagas thread, sorry

I have been so much happier after deleting all my social media accounts and spending more time doing bad posting in this weird little autonomous Valley of the Wind corner of the nuclear wasteland that is contemporary internet. Losing SA would mean I never have the chance to finish reading all the military history threads that I've been browsing lately while avoiding doing work stuff. SA is a kind of place where you stumble onto something like that after spending more than a decade in this place, there's just so much here to find! 2020 is shaping up to be a real stinker, huh.
