If I had no food and there was no open food outlets around to buy from I'd consider it - they're only making 1 dish per night, which is a lot safer, and the desserts don't need to be kept in temperature.

Only the gnocchi though, the rice for the other two they'll make in a big batch earlier and a home kitchen won't be able to get it cool for reheating later in a safe amount of time - if anything that's what'll make you sick.
Salad getting cross contaminated by the meat in the fridge or benches would also be a contender.

They're not trying to help - there are still food outlets open.
The cynic in me suspects they're trying to make a tax free buck on food that's going to be written off as an expense ("thrown away") by their original business by cooking food in an uninspected home kitchen with unknown sanitation, storage, and temperature-control.

A lot of places are still open and doing takeaways. And given the number of people working from home or in self isolation, there's a lot more people with time to make their own dinner.

It's not presented very nicely, and could use some more peas, but I doubt it was "stone cold" given the condensation visible on the containers.

Those shopping bags definitely can not be put through the washing machine. I've tried doing that in the past rather than wiping them down and they just rip apart after the first wash.

I just purchased 2 (two) NWPP bags and washed them for 15 mins in the washing machine.
My experience is that they end up extremely fragile, the handles tear away from the bag with any kind of weight in them, and the cooler bags end upheld together by the foam insert stuff as it all falls apart. They don't break up in the machine, but once dry the material is only a little stronger than a paper towel.

My money's on the mask tearing at the points the elastic's anchored pretty quickly.

Found some machine bobbins lying around and went to put them away in the drawer in my sewing machine.

Put my hand in to pull out the plastic bag without looking and my fingers screamed "that's spider web". Pulled the bag out directly onto the floor and a black not-a-redback-but-similarly-sinister-looking spider tumbled out with it.

You could create a little mesh cage at the bottom of the tree to keep your cat away.

No, that's the Singapore one that uses bluetooth.

The Australian one uses GPS location.

:tinfoil: I'd say they'd go for location data - there's a pretty authoritarian/controlling streak in a lot of politicians, and I wouldn't be surprised if they just pass legislation so they can take the data straight from the telco companies since they'll get a very low number of people voluntarily installing the app :tinfoil:

Also, a lot of people I know don't leave bluetooth on as it is/perceived as a battery hog, so they'd have to make leaving bluetooth on compulsory as well if they went down that road.

Depends on the pub/club. Some have leaned hard into food.

A pub near work spent up big a few years ago on a fancy kitchen that could crank out meals like nobody's business and was a bit of a passion area for the owner. They've been doing take-away during the shutdown, I'd be shocked if they didn't open up even if it needs another staff member put on.

Sometimes pubs also sub-let out the kitchen/dining areas to other businesses/chefs.

If you're willing to shell out the $$ for a bore and get it registered, consider instead paying for drip irrigation installation. Uses substantially less water than a hose and the water gets where it needs to - the roots - rather than sitting on the leaves to be evaporated and/or provide conditions for leaf moulds.
Also, bore water is salty and it builds up in the garden over time.

It's actually a great climate. You put on your layers for the day and stay warm - you don't have to have an undress plan for when it's 25+ degrees at midday like you do in Australia.
I'd take consistency over the last month of rando overnight frosts followed by t-shirt-weather afternoons.

What? You've never tried to anticipate the wild fluctuations in temperature that is most of Australia in winter?
Never been stuck trying to decide on whether to wear stockings under your pants because it's freezing in the morning but it'll be 25 degrees from 11am and then you'll be sweating? Or tried to plan ahead to take them off and put them back on to socialise after work when it's freezing again?

The only thing I generally had to adjust in London was my coat - wear it in to work when its cold and hang it up until hometime when it's cold again. Your heat is mostly kept in by clothing layers, and if you're a bit too warm you can tug on some for a cool breeze to your skin.

Strong Convections

Yeah, wearing "winter" clothes 10 months of the year is, in fact, great. Less time in the year I have to see a bunch of hairy-legged thongs and shorts wearers in summertime.
And the beer isn't warm - it's at ambient temperature. When ambient temperature is "standing outside the pub while it snows" it's actually nice.

25C isn't hot, but it is if you've put on tights under your pants, are wearing a singlet, long sleeve top and jumper because when you left the house in the morning it was 2C.

Double bagging yourself in hoodies and then having to manage them all day is a form of mild torture to me.
If it's a cold day, it should be cold. Not freezing first thing, then hot by midday, then warm in the evening so you have to get partly undressed and then carry around your clothes all day.

Chewbecca posted:

Nope. Maybe some of the time and certain fabrics. But if you've got anyone with asthma/dust mite allergy in the household you work out pretty quick that cold doesn't wash out the allergens. You don't need to kill the mites by ratcheting it up to 80C or something - but 30C dissolves a lot of dirt in clothing/sheets/towels that cold can't wash out even with the best of soaps.

Sillybones posted:

Why do my clothes keep coming out of the front-loader with white streaks all over them? I think my washing machine might be a piece of poo poo.

It's soap.
There's a few possibilities
1) you're adding too much soap to your wash (front loaders need much less soap that top loaders)
2) you've got a build up of too much soap over time and now there are reservoirs of it in the machine
3) you're overfilling the machine so there's not enough actual agitation so the soap just sticks on the outer clothes
4) you're washing in cold with one of the above factors - soap doesn't dissolve as well in cold
5) all of the above

Try putting it on a 30-40C cycle and 'half' fill the machine. You could even try not putting soap in - if it still foams up you've got soap built up in it.

Fire alarms are meant to be annoying so that you pay attention and don't die. Is it so critical that I get to my microwaved food within 15 seconds? Apparently a lot of them have a secret mute button by holding stop or something.

Are you sure it doesn't have an inbuilt water heater?
It sounds like you're putting too many clothes in a load if you feel like it doesn't use enough water. If it's full to the top and tightly packed, you've got way too much in there and stuff won't get clean as well as be streaky. The soap doesn't get agitated and dissolve and it'll stick to the clothes. Start by doing loads that only go halfway up the drum when loosely packed- anything over 3/4 even loosely is probably overfilled.
