This trailer owns.

Shields look awesome. Costumes look awesome. Special Effects look awesome. Duncan looks like a legit badass this time. Wish they hadn't shown a worm in the trailer, they could have stopped short of it surfacing and just the look of abject horror on Paul and Jessica's face.

Two things I like about the trailer

  • The explanation for Paul's "awakening". The dialogue gives me hope that the average person will be able to follow along, at least in regard to the main character's journey.
  • More Jason Momoa. A lot of Duncan Idaho's scenes were described after the fact in the book. Expanding his role should make the movie more of a blockbuster action movie, which is how I think it will draw in audiences

I'm hoping the trailer is just bad, because a Villeneuve sci fi movie without expansive vistas full of detail would be weird.

Every single wide shot of landscape is just a single worm spread out across both films. By the end, the camera shots are done showing off the entire worm, and we get to the final act of the movie.

Cool trailer, about as good as anyone can hope for from Hollywood these days, who knows how it relates to the actual movie though.

Man, what the fuck, man?
Two things really stuck out:
1) How good the characters look. They’ve managed to take really recognizable/familiar actors and give them a distinct (and badass) look.
2) How much I love the Lynch trailer, esp the music.

Still excited to see what we get here, though.

WHO is the goodest girl?
I did some Feyd-diving and the current speculation is that he's not in the first movie -- either that or they're saving his casting for a big reveal. I've seen some of the names they've suggested as possible leaks, but none are Sting-big, so I think it's actually pretty likely there'll be no Feyd in movie one (or, possibly, if they go all Marvel, a post-credits stinger with him. ;-))

Trailer in general looks amazing, agree re: desaturation, but that's a thing that can be (and hopefully has been) changed.

In general, I'm not a Jason Momoa fan (or at least of his films--he seems like a genuinely good dude at least), but holy poo poo, he really is the perfect casting for Duncan Idaho, isn't he?

It really looks very on brand for Villeneuve to be honest. If anything Blade Runner is the most colourful movie he's made. Incendies and Sicario were also filmed in deserts and had very muted colours.

He also really, really loves silhouettes, and I'm not surprised that I counted at least 6 in the trailer alone.

Yes. Dune constantly and deliberately spoils its very recognizable plot because the point isn't to surprise the audience with twists, but to let the audience follow Paul as he takes on a recognizable role in a legend that has been created to be exploited by someone like him.

Also, Pink Floyd is fantastic, and "Eclipse," being a song about possession, loss, and perspective, is a wonderful choice for the trailer.

If they take the film up to Paul taking his Fremen name so that they can close with a 'the legend begins' moment and start film 2 with 'two years later' then they could get away with minimal to no Feyd.
