It's probably a photo of an actual sand dune somewhere in North Africa or something. They don't move too fast, you could probably find it on Google Earth.

Depending on how you look at it, he definitely wins, but the story doesn't stay focused on the heroic Last Stand of Duncan Idaho, instead it follows the Duke's psychic son and his mom as they flee further.

sadly, he would probably have voted trump had he lived. you see the signs of chud brain rot in the later books, like a major character being a rabbi because judaism is so awesome it hasn't changed in 20,000 years

his gender essentialism is mostly saved from being totally loathesome by the fact that he thinks women are better than men, but he's also only able to write exactly one female character and it shows when he tries to have multiple women as viewpoint characters
He had two Bene Gesserit people in an alien planet two hundred centuries on take a moment to bitch about the liberals. That's what took me out of that one.

"Think you of the fact that a deaf person cannot hear. Then, what deafness may we not all possess? What senses do we lack that we cannot see and cannot hear another world all around us? What is there around us that we cannot 'touch' with our own hands? What is there that we cannot 'feel'? Could the absence of all these senses mean that in order to experience the world at all we must first be prepared to experience it as lacking any sense at all? Does the simplest kind of experience involve the most 'transcendent' sensation, that which can only be experienced with a sense of the universal? Could sense be the least important kind of experience? Can we experience anything at all if we lack a sense, a way of perceiving..."

I do think that the shields make for a lot of what makes Dune stands out, and would affect things visually, to the point where it would actually kind of suck if they dropped it. The idea that due to a technological advance, firearms as we know them are militarily useless, and even laser pew-pew guns are extremely risky, is a real game-changer... and if they ditch that just so they can have scenes with conventional, cheap to film gun play, that'd be kind of lame. Sooner imagine the death of humanity than an action scene framing not centered on the firearm, etc.
