Maybe I'm just a bad fan, but... I actually like the Curiosity class??? I mean, it's still dumb that Riker showed up with two hundred of them, but I don't think the Curiosity's bad (untextured ventral section aside, but I guess you can say "Oh, that was another Voyager nod.")

I think it's hilarious that in any other situation, there's only ever one ship near Earth to protect everyone. But Picard sends a message about diplomatic problem, and Starfleet sends 200 of their most powerful ships at the drop of a hat.

I guess that's why the Enterprise didn't show up, they're the closest ship to Earth.

Riker's fleet needed some Defiants, Akiras, Steamrunners, and Sovereigns to go with the Curiosities.

Not just because Defiants, Akiras, and Sovereigns are combat beasts. I just think they look cool.

I'd be fine if the opening were just the "New Star Trek TV Series Trailer" from back in 2016. (Minus the "CBS PRESENTS - A NEW ADVENTURE" voiceover and the "New Crews. New Villains. New Heroes. New Worlds." text.)

If Picard ended with that shot of Picard and Data dissolving into stardust, I'd be a lot less irritated about it.

Instead, we got "Oh, by the way, we Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V'd your brain into a robot body and you're just a robot who thinks he's Picard." Which is still marginally better than "Hey, we blew up the Xindi superweapon, and Earth is saved! ...Whaddya mean, 'we're in 1944 and the loving Nazis took over Earth???'"

Is there an explanation anywhere in trek as to why everyone uses turbolifts instead of just teleporting everywhere?

I still think the dumbest thing about Discovery was what happened with Airiam. She was played by one actress in Season One, then a different actress in Season Two. When they killed Airiam off, she was replaced in her duties as "Spore Drive Ops Officer" (??? That's what Memory Alpha says she did) by another crewmember, Lieutenant Nillson.

Lieutenant Nillson is played by Airiam's original actress.

I only wish I knew what happened behind the scenes that led to this casting decision.

Now granted, I've never actually bothered to watch any of Disco and I'm on the fence about whether I ever will or not, but I would have loved if they'd done a Pegasus style episode dedicated to what could happen to a starship if you seriously hosed up a spore jump. Because "Pegasus" got a little USS Eldridge in certain places... about as much as they could get away with on 90s TV I mean.

"So we had five ships testing out the mycelial spore drive, the USS Curiosity, Insight, Pathfinder, Sojourner, and Opportunity. None of them ended well. Curiosity's crew came back from their test jump. The ship didn't. That was a mess. Sojourner's returned with half its crew complement; from what Starfleet Medical can tell, everyone onboard is a fusion of two of the original crewmembers and there's some debate about whether using the transporter to separate everyone is an act of murder. Opportunity came back and it looks like it aged tens of millennia. Nobody wants to talk about what happened to the crew; we just marked them as KIA and moved on. Insight came back just fine, but they have a whole bunch of PTSD specialists talking to the crew. Sounds like they saw some poo poo."

"Wait, that's four ships. What about Pathfinder?"

"We think it got erased from history."

2. If all their gadgets and the entire ship is offline writing a way to fix it seems difficult, since they can't technobabble their way out of it.

3. Dark episodes are hard, and take more production time to make work, ironically.

4. Even if EMPs were an issue, I'm pretty confident emergency lighting would be hardened against EMPs.

They look really classy and feel like a nice lineage progression from the First Contact uniforms. Not the captain one with the white shoulders though, that one looks dumb.

I do love the Odyssey uniform; too bad we had to get through the Sierra-1 (the *original* STO uniform, visible on the game box) first.

.....Yeesh, Starfleet changed their uniforms like nine times in forty years.

My read on it was more "Picard willfully ignores Data's violations of the Prime Directive and creatively interprets Sarjenka's communications as a distress signal, which all Starfleet vessels are legally required to respond to in order to keep his friend out of legal trouble."

(Which is a little better than "Worf's foster brother shames Picard into snatching a civilization from extinction," but not by much!)

I think the only trick to it was "Hit Plus to go as fast as possible, take out the two Elasi fighters first," and one guide I read ages ago said "You need at least 18 Commendation Points if you want to survive this fight."

(The official hint book says one of the Elasi ships fires three photon torpedoes at you all in one salvo, so no wonder I kept getting killed in this part myself.)

On the other hand, given how Doctor Crusher discussed patients' conditions to Captain Picard pretty openly, HIPAA stopped being a thing sometime between 2023 and 2364 (probably because of the Eugenics War/World War III.) I could see a starship sickbay at the very least having sensors that would automatically log anyone entering and leaving.
