It's a dig against bad writing. Because this show has bad writing. This show is supposed "made for" teenagers, not about them. Mariner is one of the worst written characters TV has ever had.

Doesn't it get you down being so negative all the time? There's plenty of things out there that I think poorly of, but I don't go out of my way to obsess over it.

Ain't nobody holding a phaser to your head and making you watch it. I know you've implied before that anyone who doesn't like modern trek here will get shouted down or banned. From my perspective at least - it's just your poor attitude which is not well received. Moreover you seem to actively enjoy getting riled up by things rather than, for example, responding with a constructive and well-reasoned counter-argument to The_Doctor's posts (which you are welcome and encouraged to do on this Star Trek discussion thread). There's likely no point in my posting this, it seems the universal constant in all of Star Trek is that there will always be some fans who hate. This type of 'fan' confuses the life out of me, but it is what it is and seemingly always will be. You do you, I won't try and pathetically gatekeep how one should consume Star Trek - I just find the amount of effort you put into disliking things to be perplexing.
By the way I agree with some of where you are coming from - I really didn't care for Mariner's yawn bit at the start of the episode but I'll wait to see the season as a whole package before doubling down on claiming she's one of worst written characters TV has ever had. There were some good moments with Mom and I'm starting to view Mariner as someone who finds the bottom rung of the ladder to be actively fulfilling (in a time when there's no salary) and as someone who, despite her bravado, genuinely considers this lower strata of crew to be the true linchpin of starfleet rather than senior officers.

After being thoroughly underwhelmed by Acting Captain Riker's copy/paste fleet in PIC, I am hoping to see some familiar starship classes in animated form before this season of LDS is over. Nice to see some starfleet variety with the upcoming Vancouver but that's a previously unseen ship class right? It has familiar elements but I don't recognise it, I agree with previous posters who were reminded of a Sabre class.

Most sane people think it was gently caress, because you probably aren’t going to see the other word on non prestige tv again

My (male) husband and I did simultaneous "Did she just....." when we initially heard it. While it's not my job to tell you the sexuality of the regular posters here, I'm not the only queer trek poster and I'm not the only one who did this double take. Our own perspectives and lived experiences make some of us reach different conclusions on what we heard at first - the uncensored clip demonstrates a weird line read; sounds more like fox than fucks so the slight ambiguity here created the opening for incorrect interpretation.

CharlestheHammer likely hasn't had to endure the high school experience of getting called that word almost every single day as a teenager. If they get to make broad baseless assumptions about the sanity of LGBTQI posters here, then I get to assume they are a 30-40 year old white straight cis-male american, and I will not have one of those tell me what is and is not sane.

I still don't understand why the beep anyway, they don't take this censored approach with DIS or PIC. If CBS think that this show is going to open up the teen market for star trek, instead of the usual trekkie cohort, then they're the ones who need their sanity questioned.

Rick Sternbach did the design for the prommie and considering the original brief, it's amazing it ended up as OK as it is! Initially faced with the design challenge of a ship which:

split into 5 autonomous pieces
looks starfleet but extremely advanced
autonomous pieces must also look coherently good
must make sense within existing rules; warp core, impulse engines etc.

Imagine five! :psyduck:
Drone tech is one aspect of technological development where pre-CBS-AllAccess-era trek mostly missed the mark by a significant margin.

The show still probably isn't beyond a rough draft, however I do feel less meh on the S31 show which involves Empress Georgiou's mirror S31 doing good across the quadrant from the shadows, and slowly effecting positive change!

PIC S3 Trailer:
Have now seen it on a big screen instead of mobile and noticed the following on a re-watch:
Guinan portrait on the wall when Picard is approached in the restaurant by Starfleet.
Off to the left in same restaurant there's a poster for something called "Frontier Day" with a Starfleet Delta containing what appears to be a constitution class ship at the centre.
Amanda Plummer's ship is the Shrike.
Amanda seriously channeling her father in her first appearance on screen when she rotates round in the command chair.
That's one of Geordi's kids on the Titan's bridge
Is Raffi on a Romulan world?
A LOT of Starfleet at the spacedock fireworks scene. I'm seeing that Galaxy type refit and the new type Excelsior to name a few. Could be a deceptive angle but also spotted a few potential Norways.

My own mindless speculation - spacedock fireworks are part of aforementioned Frontier Day celebration and Plummer's character carries out a successful attack on it. Maybe the F gets smoked in the first act?!

Captain Georgiou is spared her fate, and Empress Georgiou takes her place, is killed by T'Kuvma, and views this as an attempt to pay for her evil deeds through self-sacrifice.

Bonus points for a reunion scene at the end between OG Phillipa and a profusely sobbing Michael.
