Basicaly, Vader is waiting to die until luke shows up. it's a good thing and important to his character arc. dumbshit stories that try to "humanize" Vader before Luke miss the point entirely- he wasn't human.He accepted his humanity was lost and was just a suit of murder that had completely given up.
