I've come around to appreciating flawed movies that are at least attempting something interesting (prequels, The Last Jedi) way more than safe, and totally acceptable movies (Force Awakens and the like)

yeah its a shame it was completely incoherent due to bad project management, a short deadline, and executive incompetence. anyway about the last jedi

I’m fine with all the ideas TLJ had, my problems were all just with the shoddy script. Luke trying to murder his teenage nephew over a bad feeling, the admiral not telling Poe that she had a plan just to create unnecessary tension, the loving 45-minute casino plot that added nothing and had nothing to do with anything. The FTL kamikaze was a cool effect but leaves you wondering why they bother with spaceships and guns and don’t just strap FTL engines to asteroids.

I read an article that said one of the adaptations (I think the comic but it might have been the novelization) had extra dialogue fixing most of my issues, I should check that out some time

If they had a coherent plan for the sequel trilogy from the beginning it probably would have prevented things like Rian Johnson having to come up with a reason why Luke is living in exile and JJ Abrams invalidating an entire movie.

Yeah the Last Jedi had some good ideas. That it didn't follow through on.

It had some loving awful ones, too, and it followed through on those

I can’t believe Disney plans out 20 years of completely identical Marvel movies in advance but when it came to Star Wars they just said “do whateva lol”

Rian Johnson only had Looper and like a few TV episodes to his name, they basically just handed the keys to a multibillion dollar franchise to some random guy and walked off

Unironically love Ben telling Rey to let the past die and to be your own person, then falling into the exact same "join me and let's rule the galaxy, surely nothing bad will happen" trap that Anakin and Vader both fell into, showing that the Sith never learn. That whole throne room sequence is really good and Driver and Ridley are both good in it.

I was going to say that a lot of that roadmap was already written by the time Disney got involved, but they bought Marvel in 2009 :eyepop:

It's my favorite one easily, and given very recent history it seems like that's going to stay that way for good (which I'm fine with)

Throne room is one of my fav scenes

Also I binged the whole series in time for the utter mess that was the new one and also wound up coming away with more appreciation for the prequels. The first two sucked but at least tried something interesting (even if a lot of it was bad), and I genuinely loved the dumb fun that was the whole second half of ROTS

I still have to see this movie. I haven't seen this, and I stopped watching solo because it was boring, and I fell asleep during rogue one after like 20 minutes because I was watching it at home. And then of course I didn't see the new one because I haven't seen Tlj

You’re kinda missing out because the big battle at the end of Rogue One is pretty good and the bit where Vader shows up to wreck a bunch of dumbass Rebels is the best thing Disney’s ever done. Shame about the other 90% of the movie. Solo was a lot of fun at its best and insultingly stupid at its worst so I have no idea how to feel about it lol

Originally that was going to be the only time Vader showed up in that movie which would have been a wild reveal.

it's pretty tense with how all the dudes keep dying and everything has to click into place so the death star plans could be sent, plot wise it's kinda ehh but the way it was edited togethjer was v good. i like the rogue one
