Tbh I really like the shots of Luke facing all the AT-ATs and getting shot the gently caress up while Kylo Ren angrily shouting for more. That and salt guy are good.

But I was also really ready for the movie to be over.

The Last Jedi stands as the most disappointing movie I've ever seen in a theater.

Leia getting blasted into space by an anonymous TIE pilot? Nope, space princess Harry Potter bullshit.

Warp kill looked really cool, but the lady who had already decided to go down with the ship waits to do it until virtually the entirety of the Rebels have been killed.

The entire casino/heist scenes were completely useless to the overall plot of the movie.

Rose is a truly awful character and detracts from every scene she is in.

Maybe the new one makes up for it? Don't care, can't get myself to watch it after TLJ's derivative dribble. I'm sure it's just as bad, if not worse.

The salt guy was the one moment in TLJ I really liked. Just some dumbass tasting the ground for no reason and shouting “it’s salt!!” It’s like the good corny moments in the prequels

TLJ did a lot of really dumb bullshit for really dumb reasons and I had a fairly negative impression of it for a little while after seeing it because those parts stuck out so much. Leia getting spaced and the casino sequence and dumb muppet Yoda being great examples.

But I've rewatched it and over time I've come to appreciate a lot of the good stuff it did, too, to the point where I almost agree with the OP. I'd say it's about tied for fourth place with episode 3 for me.

I told you that story so I could tell you this one.

It's the best shot and best acted Star Wars. It cheekily steals from all this stuff that stole from Star Wars. It's an incredibly good duck whistle for rooting out chuds.

It's easily the third-best Star Wars.

“Hello there”

Also I rewatched ANH for the first time in ages over Xmas and I dunno if it was just the special edition pissing me off but I gotta say: TLJ is the second best SW movie

Also also imo Adam Driver’s “please” to Rey in the throne room aftermath is perhaps the best line reading in Star wars

I squealed like a small child when they ganked Snoke because I had him pegged from the start as a shallow pointless Palatine clone mystery box that JJ Abrams gave no thought to other than "we need a new Palpatine or something". So it was great seeing him get tooled by the real villain of the trilogy out of nowhere.

Shame we never got the conclusion of that narrative arc, but I'm cool with that.

The Kylo & Rey fight scene was pretty solid as was the Kylo vs Luke one. Out of all the typical complaints I have about TLJ Luke dying or whatever from force telesharting isn't one of them.

The warp kill looked really loving awesome, it's really too bad about every single other aspect of the scene.

It is pretty rad that so many people seemed to get a lot of enjoyment out of the flick! It totally ruined any desire for me to see another Star Wars in theaters. I didn't even buy my own ticket  really just left wanting my time and the EU back.

And I like most of the MCU. Hell, I like Samurai Cop and all of the bad Tremors more than TLJ.

Third-best is probably correct, yeah. The only thing that's actually bad in it is space-Leia. Canto Bight is goofy but it is teaching a new generation of children that we must eat the rich, and that's a good thing.

The dark side hole scenes were where my interest peaked in the entire trilogy. It looked like we were finally going to get some new force-lore. But nope, then then someone slapped the writers and told them to put in more superpowers instead.

ROTS and AOTC are loving dog rear end ugly films so I put them lower. TPM, for all its faults, looks really good and it has a certain amount of heart to it. Like, George actually did try, he just failed. The Disney films are all soul-less cash grabs that were written by a committee in an attempt to appeal to every last human being on Earth.

Endor itself suuuuuuuucks I hated it

I liked about 3/4 of tlj, besides:

- canto bight is a good set piece but isn’t well integrated into the rest of the plot
- the slow chase is boring and frustrating
- the last 30~45 minutes are disney frantically trying to deny progress in Star Wars so they can sell more poo poo

crait is really cool except for the thematic backtracking the movie does

It upends the whole setting lol. It’s WWII battleships and airplanes and samurai sword fighting and cowboy outlaws but in space with lasers because all that poo poo is cool, but then they try to introduce realism to a series absolutely not designed around it. If you can just strap a hyperdrive to an asteroid and fling it at your enemy why bother with star destroyers and poo poo. People complained about TROS kinda lamely saying “oh that was one in a million, we can’t do it again” but if they didn’t do that then the audience would just be asking “okay why don’t they just fling another ship at the Emperor from half a galaxy away”

It's basically like when a main character dies in some kind of supernatural series but then gets resurrected. Like yeah maybe it's dramatic but congrats now you've essentially made death a non-issue in your series and the next time someone dies you're gonna have to explain why they can't resurrect that one too.
