Star Wars made up nonsense lightsaber fighting styles (forms) as if anyone watching the movies can tell there's a difference. Mostly talked about a lot in weird or noncanon novels in the franchise for nerds who love mystical-sounding martial art styles that pretend to have a real rock-paper-scissors aspect to it. Anyway I've summed them up for everyone: Form I: ooga booga me caveman learn to swing sword Form II: Oh there's other swordsmen, duel at high noon Form III: Can't touch this...but neither can I Form IV: Swing really hard and fast bro Form V: Chad form, deflect bullets, hold lightsaber gangsta style Form VI: Use the force to do cool flipz and trickz Form VII: The Samuel L. Jackson form, I'm not kidding he's the only one who can use this one Anyway I haven't gone that deep into it besides learning the stuff that actually stuck in the main movies. Like how Obi-Wan uses form 3 and that's why he does his weird like closed two-finger pointing when fighting, and that only Sam Jackson mastered tHe BeStEsT foRm #7 and that's why he was the best fighter ever (you have to be like, hella strong in ur mind too to resist going to the dark side when using form 7). Please tell me more summed up stories of dumb lightsaber form details from any side novels or whatever you've read, or just anything about people trying to practice real lightsaber fighting irl besides star_wars_kid.mov. I mean, I really do legit enjoy watching Star Wars lightsaber fights so if there's any cool poo poo you've found, please share them. Good old stuff: All of the Clone Wars animation (2003) by Genndy Tartakovsky. Still my favorite thing out of Star Wars. Here's why everyone loves Grievous Good new stuff: This trailer is for Galaxy of Adventures which is a series of retelling shorts coming...??? Says its coming to the Star Wars Kids youtube channel but it looks really good. Trailer is full of lightsaber fightin'

Best subtle lightsaber form lore is in Rebels when Obi-Wan imitates Qui Gon's lightsaber form and uses it to bait Maul into trying the same thing he did on Naboo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeG215-yu-k

I like whatever style Darth Vader uses where you just go apeshit. When he’s murking those Rebels at the end of Rogue One and he’s just going nuts with crazy one-handed overhead swings. Get their asses.

Star Wars fans have made some legitimately movie-esque lightsaber fights. I'm not sure how many are following lightsaber lore but it looks about right. Here's a compilation of 'em. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8bzRU_SrKA Roth posted:Best subtle lightsaber form lore is in Rebels when Obi-Wan imitates Qui Gon's lightsaber form and uses it to bait Maul into trying the same thing he did on Naboo I didn't think much of the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons, the animation style just wasn't my cup of tea and my mental picture of the Clone Wars was more Tartakovsky than what it turned out. That moment was legitimately great though.

Dun Moch: the art of poo poo talking your opponent. Because Darth Vader does that all the time so obviously it had to be a legit lightsaber combat technique and not just him being an rear end in a top hat.

I have been practicing kendo, on and off for over 12 years now and I have to say some of the stances were heavily influenced (or maybe straight up borrowed) from kendo/kenjutsu. The Obi-Wan vs Dart Maul fight scene in the Rebels (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeG215-yu-k) has two stances straight out of kendo: 1-) At 1:18 mark, The front stance, tip pointing towards opponents throat is chudan-no-kamae. In the video, Obi-Wan points the tip of the lightsaber a little bit higher but still it's the textbook "balanced" stance. Good for offense and defense, no particular weakness but still offensively strong (especially if you are attacking hands or throat). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%ABdan-no-kamae) 2-) At 1:20 Obi-Wan switches to hasso-no-kamae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hass%C5%8D-no-kamae) , which is considered an agressive stance. Rarely, if ever, used in modern kendo matches except some turbo nerds (might be much effective in an actual sword fight) 3-) For the jodan-no-kamae (overhead stance) Anakin and Count Dooku both use (briefly) a close-to-proper jodan stances during the Attack of the Clones final battle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlRJLcy8NsA (1:50 mark). Yoda also starts with hasso kamae at 3:32. Original Trilogy lightsaber stances are not that smooth but all follow the mentality of "if you gonna get cut by a lightsaber, you gon die" which is pretty much the same with actual katana duels. The sequel lightsaber fights feel more fencing/hema rather than MY HANZO STEEL. Kylo Ren uses wide and unnecessary swings and most of the time hunches while Rey straight up swings the lightsaber like a baseball bat. In the Force Awakens, Finn uses the lightsaber in hasso kamae twice which is kinda crazy to do with something so dangerous like a lightsaber. Kylo Ren many times uses what I can call as a fencing/sabre stance by holding the crossguard saber in front of him raised with one hand. I mean, there is a chance that I might be a collosal nerd and original star wars and jedi stuff made me learn kendo in my later years

There's no wrong way to hold a lightsaber. Lightsabers are fictional and they take place in a fictional universe where anyone can do anything because it's fiction and knowing HEMA doesn't qualify you for anything. . . . . . . . .. . I like that they gave Dooku a cool curved lightsaber handle, because Christopher Lee was an actual fencer and that's more akin to how those swords are built.

I always liked Starkiller’s reverse Lightsaber style, it seemed cool and very unique and I preferred ninjutsu to kendo style. I dug in DEEP to all the lightsaber battles in Star Wars, I’ve watched everyone a couple times at least in the last few months, and my favorite one is probably https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaVYu0LPsSU I don’t know if it’s style per se’ or if it’s just substance but it took me 3 viewings before I realized that Darth Sidious doesn’t ever look at who he is fighting. His movements are so fast and fluid without appearing to be reactive. He is dictating the terms of every blow via precognition, he already knows what his opponents next move is, he can see it in his mind, and has no need for his eyes when his mastery of force sensitivity and telepathy is that clear. It’s a cool way of representing how the force can impact lightsaber dueling beyond simply making you stronger and faster. I noticed it when I realized how intensely Maul and Savage were staring at him and he never bothered to meet their gaze. Top 3 are probably Maul vs Sidious Maul vs Obi-Wan Maul vs Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan What I’m saying is Darth Maul is the best character.
