Crows and Port will have to move outside SA, they didn't get exemption to FIFO.

Weagles (Edit: and Freo) are heading to Gold Coast for the next few months as WA will not be changing their rules either.

I'm OK with it. It'll be weird but still.

If the country had completely shat the bed in handling it like the US or England has, it'd be no way, but fortunately the federal government has been kept right away from any health based decisions and (unfortunately) has decided to take the opportunity to purge the undesirables.

This kind of crap helps dickheads make the argument that unions are bad. Why did this even make the media? Why didn’t Dusty give Pickett some money before he had to apply for a hardship fund? Can’t dip into the 600 you’re still making to help out a team mate? gently caress you.

he's actually worse off because 50% of his $800k is a lot more than 50% of the $100K a first year player is in. His noble sacrifice should be applauded.

I think they have to be all on the level as any payment made under the table that has anything to do with the club could be seen as skirting the salary cap. If “dusty pays him” (I know you’re just using an example here) then what’s to say he’s using outside money to be able to pay into richmonds lists etc.

The article on the age specifically addresses this in picketts case of the club saying they’d pay more in these cases but their hands are tied.

Plus it should be on the teammates to pay each other, it should’ve been on the AFL and the AFLPA to actually care about their players

The club obviously can’t pay him more because that would be a clear breach of the salary cap. What’s to stop players on top dollar asking the club to restructure their pay to allow lesser lights to get paid a bit more this year? Besides greed, I mean.

You’re right, it should have been the aflpa that organised it that way. But it seems they didn’t, so now it falls to the knobs still making half a million a year to do something about it. If they don’t, I just have to assume they agree with the what the aflpa has done. Hence: gently caress them.

(Also if the aflpa had organised the pay cut properly, it would have been the players paying each other)

The AFLPA has consistently showed they represent the top players more than the journeymen so this would not be a surprise. They're like the Shoppies of sport. The union you have when you don't have a union.

I was going to say the AFLPA aren't making hands over feet money like the SDA does then I remembered Dangerfield is on the board so you're actually 100% right.

What a loving joke. The initial contract players shouldnt have had their income touched at all.

I'd seen that discussed for other sports, where players with salaries below a certain level were untouched but above that was reduced. shame that wasn't the case here, because "50% for everybody" is one of those things that sounds a whole lot more fair than it actually turns out to be.

The point of restrictions was to reduce transmission rates to a point where our hospitals can cope and keep the death rate down to flu like levels as opposed to cataclysmic levels. We cant just continue to hole up or a lot more people are going to perish just from the social and economic fallout.
