Crowd lockout for Round 1 confirmed: https://www.afl.com.au/news/384878

Watch a player get infected between now and Thursday so the season is delayed.

Four in the row for the blue girls yeah!

Those bounces were horrible for melbourne, plus peppering away with shots on goal and all of them being points for the best part of three quarters. But we were unable to land a handpass for three quarters, then it finally clicked in the end and we were able to just run out the game. They'll be tired as hell though and have a long recovery during the week, at least we play the eagles at home so should win that too.

The season will be delayed.

I reckon there is a 50% chance round 1 is played, 70% chance only the Thursday and Friday games are played, 5% chance round 2 games are played.

~700 footballers, plus club doctors and gameday staff have to be isolated from their friends, family, the public, eachother for weeks because as soon as one person gets it that entire team (and the team they played last) have to be isolated. Whichever team gets it first will kick and scream if the competition goes ahead as they will miss out on premiership points.

If you look at the timeline of Italy, we're about to get heaps more confirmed cases over the next 2 weeks.

No way it goes ahead. They'll pull the pin on the Wednesday next week I reckon.

Yeah, this will make the afl cancel the season.

Theyre hanving a big 1000+ conference call tonight with all players, I duspect they come out tomorrow or wed and postpone the season.

Even if it is just the flu for Pendles other players will be changing their mind.

And if he is infected then every clubs has to go into isolation because the captains day photos were taken less than a week ago.

Four options for the AFLW season too, they will decide tomorrow:

1. To continue the season as planned with no crowds. That would see two more weeks of home and away games followed by three weeks of finals. The AFLW Grand Final is scheduled for April 18, which is Round 5 of the AFL men’s season;

2. To cancel the season now. This appears highly unlikely unless the government steps in;

3. To play a Grand Final this weekend between North Melbourne (conference A) and Fremantle (conference B), and;

4. To start finals this weekend with a top four instead of a top six. This would see North Melbourne host Carlton and Fremantle host GWS. A Grand Final could therefore be played late next week at the earliest

1 please, even if they have to play the rest of the season/finals at the end of the year) or 4.

Only because no live sport is being played but they do have VODs and docos.

A reminder that Carlton got Jack Martin for free (draft wise) and then paid him a frontloaded contract which has now been reduced by 20%.

Roof at docklands to remain open so as to ensure games are considered outdoor events and not indoor events. Otherwise they'd be cancelled for exceeding the 100 people gathering limit (and it sounds like the 100 limit will be reduced to 40-50 this weekend by the gov too).

Tough game for the last semi final in the aflw.

Both sides shutting the ball down completely but unable to take advantage and score.

I think the game will break open soon as one side gets tired late in the third quarter.

The contracts end for the women in April.

Yes, that is somewhat minor given they could be extended for 3 weeks later on this year. But they've called it off. I suppose that decision could be reversed in November/December and play the remaining 3 games in the leadup to the 2021 season.

Why not just a north v freo grand final?

We won't know which team was best. Freo didn't play North, Carlton or Melbourne.

North didn't play Carlton either.

Freo are only ontop of the ladder because they didn't yet play Melbourne or Carlton in the regular season, they wouldn't have won both games, maybe one of them.

A North v Freo grand final this weekend would have been unfair or tainted anyway.

As for the AFLW, this is why they didn't just go to a North v Freo grand final.

(top six determined by premiership points)

CARL: 1-1 (24-39, 40-24)
COLL: 1-3 (39-24, 30-33, 26-46, 32-34)
FREM: 1-0 (33-30)
GWS: 0-2 (19-37, 26-29)
KANG: 2-1 (20-22, 37-19, 34-32)
MELB: 3-1 (22-20, 46-26, 24-40, 29-26)

Far too inconsistent without the regular season being played out, not to mention conferences making things difficult again.

Carlton were probably going to establish our own VFL team once we got out of debt in the next year or two and built the new training centre which would house all four teams under the one roof (afl, aflw, vfl, vflw)

But this sucks, it kills off Preston Football Club after 138 years.
