I'd like to know how the staff rationalise that, knowing they're uncovering the dirtiest poo poo in the world every issue, that nothing is done about it by the british media or political class unless it becomes extremely expedient to do so but also everything is pretty much fine as it is and any threats to it must be ruthlessly crushed

That's the problem with Private Eye, it fosters this corrosive cynicism which is like the evil cousin of sensible centrism and just as damaging to the political discourse, see also HIGNFY

they're all the same, everyone's corrupt and incompetent, what else can you expect from politicians, all you can do is laugh right? Now turn the page for a selection of cutting-edge 'X identifies as Y' TERF jokes

I think my favourite part was the little box of contestants on TV gameshows being unbelievably stupid. It was very patronising and smug but still made me giggle.

Also the columns on the NHS & railways were good. Street of Shame was useful for confirming my biases about how loving bad our newspapers are too.

Rotten Boroughs was always my favourite part, seeing just how much utter corruption goes unremarked at local govt level. The book reviews were always entertaining, too.

they're still in full war on terror mode lol

nukes aside - russia has more tanks and apcs than the uk has individual infanteers, over 10k more

During the Corbyn years, it was Streeting, colleagues say, who made life most difficult for the Labour leader during PLP meetings, listening quietly, without notes, then reacting to what had been said, often posing questions over the handling of anti-Semitism complaints. Colleagues praise him as a gifted orator, comparing him to Tony Benn, Barbara Castle and Tony Blair. “How many people, really, can walk into the chamber and think on their feet?” one Labour MP says. “We all think we can, but we can’t. Wes can.”
