I've seen enough reactions to Sims DLC to know what levels people are okay with and where it breaks the line so much the general gaming populace becomes aware of what's going on.

Like the time there was a Sims 4 stuff pack for animals, but you had to own the actual Sims 4 expansion pack for animals to get any real use out of it. It was DLC for DLC.

We had lootboxes for Animal Crossing back in 2002 when the only way to get some of the NES games at the time were through e-Reader cards.

But they never even came out with the cards for Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda. In fact the game's password system was created in such a way that you could get basically any item be it furniture or whatever from a password EXCEPT for those specific e-Reader card games.

The grass-wear system is still in, but you can sacrifice a villager to the Island to reset the grass back to a pristine state.

And you can never get that villager back. The game will refuse to let that specific villager move back into town. They're gone.

I'm slightly disappointed amiibos weren't integrated more.

The fact that you can seemingly be able to invite every normal villager to the campsite once you build it is already above what I had originally assumed the game was going to let you do with them.

Like in New Leaf that feature almost seemed OP to an extent, given how that title was still made with a lot of the old restricted Animal Crossing rules in place. I assumed New Horizons would just like, give you their portrait to put on your desk and that's all the amiibo would do.

Considering New Leaf had long enough legs that they put out a physical version of Welcome Amiibo with the update on the cartridge I could see them doing that with New Horizons one day. Especially if the updates go on for like, more than a year or two.

Seriously they're breaking all sorts of old "That's just the way it is" Animal Crossing restrictions/rules that I can't wait for the inevitable think pieces that are all "I liked this series more when we didn't have control over where villagers put down their houses and the grass barely ever grew back" and I'll be all like, that's nice...but I don't care.

Looking at this chart, the Sanrio cards won't let you invite villagers to the game, so those seem to (for the time being) not be returning to New Horizons, but you DO get their poster (a new version of the portrait I guess) it says. So you don't have to worry about acquiring those specific cards for now.

All the other Welcome Amiibo cards will work in every instance though.

Nintendo please push up the release date of New Horizons in Japan for these kids like, I don't even care if everyone else has to wait a month to get it but at least we still have to go outside and do things that will pass the time until then.

As horrible as it might sound out of context I really like when we get footage of when an Island has been customized to the point you can't even recognize how it looked on day 1. Like by the end of the ad you see a player-made fairground that wouldn't look out of place in any of the old games. Like you'll still be able to come up with ideas for towns that you wouldn't even guess originated on an island landscape.

My New Leaf save is a mess. I started it in one relationship, we both animal'd the hell out of the crossing, we eventually broke up and I forgot my town for a while. Was dating someone else, they started getting into the gamecube or wii one and I was like ohh check out the 3DS one I also have it's even better... Cue them starting their own house and took to raiding the exes house, except obviously a starter house has way less room so there's basically just hundreds of furniture and clothes everywhere. At this point, cleaning out two villagers worth of exes literal baggage is more work than I'm willing to do for that town. Plus everyone cool moved away anyway.

Games with customization can be pretty interesting time-capsules, and every Animal Crossing is no exception.

A collection of Street Passed homes in New Leaf over half a decade can show how fads change over time, how people change.

Man this video would have probably been a lot more interesting for most people like...a year ago.

I get the feeling the dude had already put a bunch of time writing and recording the script for the thing before last month's direct and it'd be a huge waste for him to just drop the video...but there's so many fuckin' things that were a problem a year ago that New Horizons solved so the majority of the video is like, "Oh jeez sorry man."

The rest of the video is wanting so much control over the game it gets into like, stuff I'm not even sure the original titles could have feasibly done. Like New Horizons is already granting his wish with being able to not only put down houses and shops anywhere on the map but also move them at any time. Like I'll give you stuff like that could have been done by New Leaf. But when he starts talking about wanting control over the time of day while the game is running without even going back to the main menu it's...I feel like that could be possible, NOW but it's a weird thing to complain about in regards to the older titles. Because I'm pretty sure the older entries really couldn't handle something like that without things getting weird.
