  I live here (it's a pretty  city overall and especially fun in the summer), it's not ideal but downtown Chicago is 90 minutes away by Amtrak if you can't find lodging up here. Otherwise your best bets are probably the northern Illinois suburbs if you're driving. Nah, there used to be a beautiful high speed electric commuter line (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_North_Shore_and_Milwaukee_Railroad) which has been gone forever, but Amtrak still runs back and forth all day, every day.

I signed up to be a delegate. I doubt I’ll get very far due to how entrenched and well-off my local Dems are. They hate Bernie so much. They wouldn’t even let us set up a table at the last event they hosted.

Something worth considering is crowdsourcing for sanders delegates to go to the convention. I saw somewhere that the total cost, including county & state party conventions leading up to the national convention, is around $8,000/person. While I'm sure the sanders campaign will try to ameliorate the costs by helping lower-income delegates, it's a loving crime that it costs so much to participate if you're young (as sanders delegates will be) and lower-income (which sanders delegates will also be).
