I don't know if any of y'all are interested in this, but I've found myself watching a lot of MotorWeek Retro Reviews on YouTube. MotorWeek was one of the staples in automotive news, and I spent many weekend hours watching it. I even remember some of the clips as I re-watch them 30 years later...

It's fascinating to watch them review contemporary new cars and rave about what are truly frightening performance numbers compared with present day.

Like "a true sports sedan for an economy car price" -- the first new car that I purchased on my own: a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IZ466Pgd-k

Or go back a little bit to the '80s for "acceleration, and lots of it" from the 1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo, with a "blast" to 60 in 9.5 seconds from its 70 horsepower, which was almost 25% more than the non-turbo version. :stare:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGSDLmmKUbk

How about a "sluggish" 0-60 time of 15 seconds from the 1985 Volvo DL Wagon?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0NOcj6pgW4

Or the 1982 Pontiac 1000 (ne:Chevy Chevette) that didn't get TO 60 in the 1/4 mile, taking 23.3 seconds at 59mph.

Take a look through the Retro Reviews and post the interesting/funny/sad things you find.

The SE-R was such a good car, why did you have to go and gently caress it up Nissan, it could have been like the Civic Si

[e] This was my first new car, had the optional a/c installed :)

I Want To Believe.

Old Top Gear was very much a fairly sensible car review/news programme, and I think most of the UK AI contingent probably gre up watching this kind of flavour of it.

Skip to 12 minutes in on the above video for the Impreza launch review, mainly for how different the brand image was back then to a couple of decades later.
Proper "farmers and farmers' mums" stuff.

Also, not a review programme, but "From A To B: Tales Of Modern Motoring" is a great snapshot of various aspects of UK automotive culture in the 90s:

A '94 Z28 was the first new car my dad bought in my lifetime, and the car he had to introduce me to the joys of spectating autocross and drag racing.

The numbers were surprisingly good. The later years got faster than I remembered.

It was a really fast for it's time and handled like it was on rails with the Goodyear Gatorback tires. But then again the IROC my dad had was brand new, will be interesting to see how an IROC with 100k miles drives.
