Biohazard posted:Michael Dorn may not be a great actor, but I still agree with him that a "captain worf" show could have worked. Agreed. I loved the stint he did on that Klingon ship that exposed how the federation has established a sensible command structure and tends to subdue megalomaniacs trying to run ships at the cost of passionate commanders.

The only thing I did like about it was the meta discussion about characters playing roles...while actors are paying characters in their roles while faking their true role. It's heavy handed narrative work, but can make a fluff episode less superficial. Especially with the ending, not just the costumed away party. I have enjoyed watching the doctor panic. Y'all aren't wrong, and feel free to bitch, but maybe just chill the eff out and enjoy your semi good pulpy space mans and SirPatStew finally leaning into the role and the concept of this show. Please, let's put our old dead gay goon money into this so they keep making them. And then just watch reruns of TNG and DS9 on CBS access and pretend you're not watching orville. Baudolino posted:Lol. I did`nt mean to imply it was artfully done in this case or that the writers put much tougth into the political implications of the show, in the end they just want to get paid for a day`s work just like the rest of us. This is true, but after hearing from PS about the creators, he's gone out of his way to not resurrect this show and only the leadership and promise and context of the show lead him back. It's a long shot and they're already going out of their way to try to improve/justify s2 apparently... Come on, they mentioned Spot. Are you not amused... Aside from generally saying they should do another episode entirely and do it better, how should this go? Bringing back more of the crew would make it even more like generational fan service. I'm genuinely interested in specific kinds of scenes, from a fanfic perspective, that are missing and people are looking for.

Naw, really, it's poo poo. I'm just surprised someone else hasn't bought and improved the franchise. Maybe it's just too janky and not worth investing in. CBS is staking a lot on it and, well, if no one else can/will, I guess I have to fall in line. I assume 50% of their subscription base reads this thread. They seem to have taken Disney's approach to launching a streaming service but with like 1% of the ambition and investment. Presumably because they don't have the cash. Crushing a new show of a group like cbs that is sinking or swimming might not lead to the same quality improvement outcomes you get from trashing Disney's handling of star wars. Pragmatic and kinda dumb, but I have a hard time hating this show. To be fair, I'm dead on their target audience so I'm sure my view is unreasonably biased. Did he get popped twice? He sniffed a lot. Unsuccessfully because of benzos. Yeah, no need for the second shot in that scene. Maybe his little wrist phaser went off on his way down. Lots of really bad world building around universal teleportation and light speed weaponry. I dug the fight scene between Dahj and the talshiar, but that's been it. Also 100% agree with the plastic implants. Tbh, I'm ok with rubber/plastic housing for them, it makes some sense, just looked flimsy and taped on. I kept waiting for her eye piece to pop off. How did they look so much better so long ago? Maybe they didn't and we've got HD now? ILL Machina fucked around with this message at 18:43 on Feb 22, 2020 |

Clint Eastwood claims it happens a lot. Grizzled hard life leads to nothing else to live for but this one good last long shot fight. It's a trope, and we're in that western thing that could've just been firefly. Maybe people are just more fit in the future...even if their skin goes to poo poo.

I never said he was badass, he's a twat. I think that's besides the point that it's a simple trope he uses in his movies. It predates his portrayal of it. It's not what we wanted or need from the franchise, and yeah, I agree with your point that the character Picard really isn't coming across as badass, let alone interesting. And, gently caress, my skin crawls every time they say "JL"

I'm inclined to finish my poo poo posting in this thread by reminding goons there's a new season 7 of the Clone Wars animated series that started yesterday and might not suck maybe. And D+ has an "essential top 20" playlist for getting through s5. My rewatch has been satisfying enough to temper my poo poo impression of Picard. There's SOMETHING good in space.

I'm fifteen minutes into the new episode. I liked the idea that a humanoid's grief via the Admonishment was enough to destabilize a cube, but jesus I'm regretting every other second. May not report back. I'm feeling like the other Romulans who touched the Admonishment ring after they folded back their CG hoodies and now crave death.

I generally agree with the idea that Minority Report style UIs are dumb as gently caress, but maybe if they're making small spatial movements that represent very complicated menu interactions isn't the worst. Especially if the Borg have some innate ability to interpret the bizzaro presentation... Talking about Seven hacking the cube...trying to give them the credit they're expecting, but it just seems like the UI CG dev got paid way too much.

More bizarre than even Brent Spiner playing every member of the Soong family. I have no idea why he or his character were inserted there... The show attempts to focus on an aging ex-hero diplomat, who sees the initial benevolent purposes of his beloved faction degrading, as he attempts to unify new allies, the ancient enemies causing the degradation, and a new complicated people, but fails to address any of those issues in any substantial detail and just comes across as lazy and vaguely racist.
