They've also confirmed that he has hostages. Hostage taking in situations like this generally (but not always) indicate some type of political demand.

The soldier ones are always bad, Australia had a real bad one due to the rogue soldier. Which wikipedia has a detailed article still up on how to copy, and this one is similar. Honestly I think the sad truth is people realized that the news cycle is so brutally fast in the US that no matter how many people they killed people would forget them in a month, unlike the Columbine kids.
