at the last place where I drew a paycheck (which is not to say that I worked) I had a polite but disheartening argument with one of the "devs" about asking dev candidates what they've done when their project wasn't following best practices. He only wanted people on the team who said they would dig in and stomp their feet every time best practices weren't 100% followed. I don't know what kind of career trajectory produces a guy who thinks like that (the guy I was arguing with).
