wtf NRL refs Ponga got hit late and high on the 2nd. Play continues. Goes on for several more plays and eventually on the last the Knights put a kick in and it's cleared up. At that point the ref goes and rules a penalty for the late hit. Of course they score on the subsequent set. In bonus news, Ponga stays on, takes the conversion attempt, and then goes off for the HIA check. If the nrl were wondering why people think the refs and rules are garbage this is a prime example

Whilst that's not wrong, it still doesn't mean the refs should have given you the entire rest of the set and then a 6 again for your trouble. The penalty was obvious and should have been blown immediately. In what other cases are the refs allowed to go back multiple plays to rule on penalties (not counting putting people on report, etc)

And then the Eels get hosed by the letter of the law. Because the ref calls a penalty for an infringement in the play the ball (even though it was successfully played) they can't dive over and score because the penalty was before the play started. Not saying the call is wrong, just saying it's idiotic.
