my favorite drm memory was the record labels finally agreeing to let stebe jorbs sell albums and singles through the itunes store but only if they had drm AND apple to wholly own the drm system (design and build and manage and pay for) - not realizing they had just handed apple the keys to the handcuffs that would lock their users into apples ecosystem and destroy any leverage the labels might have in future negotiations

theres a general problem with sex-focused websites (greatly exacerbated by sesta/fosta) that the content means a hard ceiling on how big they can grow. advertisers dont want to deal with you, you have trouble getting your app carried, its hard to promote yourself. once you reach a certain size you stagnate, and the money people begin pushing you find a way to make number go up (because number must go up). usually this means pivoting away from the porn and sex work and towards the mainstream, except that almost never works because 1) your old users are going to walk away, 2) theres no guarantee youll get any new users, and 3) your reputation as a former porn site is going to make your pivot to the mainstream extra difficult i assume this is what is going on with patreon and onlyfans - theyve hit a ceiling and trying to figure out how to keep growing, and that usually means giving the adult-oriented content and members and users the back of your hand if you work on the adult entertainment side of the internet you should just assume youll be completely upended and migrating to a new platform every few years

KOTEX GOD OF BLOOD posted:lmao i would like some more detail about this like a lot of early iphone/ipad competitors the marketing was built around being tough rugged manly machines for REAL MEN to do REAL WORK on, unlike those sissy oh-so-elegant la-di-dah limp-wristed apple products so the dell streak team did an internal marketing stunt (to get people at dell excited about this whole new products) by hiring a bunch of dudes dressed as bikers to wander around the main dell campus yelling at people and demanding to know if they were pumped about this kickass new tablet but they forgot to notify or clear it with site security so when a bike gang rolled onto dells campus and a bunch of tattooed bikers jumped off their bikes and started screaming at people and stomping into buildings welp here comes the swat team the product ended up being about as well thought out as the marketing plan

gruber remembered some funy tech poo poo from 2013 todayLarissa Faw, writing for Forbes in January 2013 posted:Ultimately, in the eyes of today’s youth, massive popularity has watered down Apple’s coolness. “Teens are telling us Apple is done,” says Tina Wells of the youth marketing agency Buzz Marketing Group. “Apple has done a great job of embracing Gen X and older [Millennials], but I don’t think they are connecting with Millennial kids.
