fl studio has a pretty wicked sale right now. i already committed a few years ago to their ecosystem with signature edition, but I've been jonesing for an autotune, which i can grab separately but this sale means my upgrade to all plugins edition is just $30 more than id spend individually on one plugin (fl studio or otherwise) and it's got more plugins and instruments that would be nice to have so im already in on this one!

software sales for music nerds are wild - if you wait long enough they'll end up doing sales of like 45%-80% sometimes. it's how i got amplitube, horns and drums for cheap

also the spinning webgl retail box on the sale page is a nice touch

Don't you just hate when you wind up in a store with people who are in a socioeconomic class that is pretty obviously about two levels lower than your own?
now that I’m retired my wife and I have been working on the music setup

we’ve had the Roland RD-700NX piano and some MD-8 monitors set up for years, now I have a cheap Behringer mixer between them so I can add More

now we have:
  • Alesis SR-16 drum machine
  • Yamaha VL70-m wind synthesizer, connected to
  • Yamaha WX-5 electric clarinet wind controller

and we’ll eventually my old i9 MacBook Pro 16in with an eMagic AMT-8 for MIDI—Apple actually still supports it in Logic!

(my understanding is that Apple could also make and sell new Atari Falcon 030 hardware if they wanted to, since eMagic got a license to do so back in the day…)

we need to do something for string input though, between my wife’s ukes, guitars, and lute, and my guitars, right now we only have a Yamaha AG06 MkII and a couple M-Audio M-Track Duo and she uses the AG06 as part of running games with virtual tabletop

we also have a few other things to throw in, my OP-1 and OP-Z and her new EP-1320 Medieval which is such a fun shitpost of an instrument

I also got a P-6 and loaded it with Erang's dungeon synth samples. It fits in the front pocket of a hoodie, too! There's a fuckload of mountains to the south of my city, and I need to take it down there and work on some spooky forest music in a nearby spooky forest.

And I just noticed that that last track accidentally used a Volca track I made for the one I did in August. Whoops!

I need to practice drums with a metronome more. https://soundcloud.com/the_door_is_scary/10-14-2024a

This time, I used a Casio SA-11 set to mandolin for the keyboard part.

More quick improv tracks. I'm still thinking about what to do for National Solo Album Writing Month. It'll probably be more synth based, but these tracks are fun to do.
