like when you are listening to a track and your mind decides that a certain point is the "start" of the loop or the downbeat, and then the drums come in and the downbeat switches to another point entirely, making your brain readjust.

“post-facto metric ambiguity”

i’ve also heard this described as “deceptive downbeat”

i’m looking at buying a smallish amp for my 14yo for xmas

had in mind a modelling amp, something big enough that he could use it to jam with someone ever

i’ll be watching and reading reviews

but does anyone have any like, advice? pitfalls to watch out for?

check out the Fender Champion 20. retails for $129 USD. i found a used one for a good deal ($50) recently, and gifted it to a friend as a part of their beginner’s electric guitar setup.

it’s a great first amp:
- lots of variety with the built-in amp models and effects
- quiet enough for bedroom practice
- loud enough for inside jams
- relatively small and portable
- honestly sounds pretty good (for the price)

obviously you could spend a lot more on an amp, but if he’s 14 and just starting out it really doesn’t have to sound perfect. it just needs to be loud and look cool. rock and roll baby :)
