Not really but it's one of those things that's pointless to argue about, like how you have antivax people who're quite literally convinced there's going to be a mass dieoff any day now for vaxxed people

those people should probably be involuntarily committed for evaluation because if they ever figure out that mass dieoff = total societal collapse they might well decide to murder-suicide their families

the actual paper is below. I don't agree with your summary that the T cells are "hosed up". there are numerous reasons for a difference in expansion in different cell types given they have just finished fighting off an infection, for which they were reactive against whole virus and not just spike protein.

I've posted a study in this very thread about how it fucks up your t-cells, which you conveniently ignored

Cool opinion piece on the NIH website. The actual study says something different though as knox already pointed out.
It doesn't show that covid "fucks up your t-cells", it shows that infection attenuates CD8+ T-cell response to the virus in relation to other T-cells like CD4+. Disparate kinetics they call it. I'm no immunologist but that doesn't sound like "fucks up your T-cells" to me.
The vaccine is spike-only and there are many other antigens on the virus for the immune system to target, and when you get infected the immune system favors CD4+ over CD8+ more. Who knows? Again I'm not an immunologist. Neither are you for that matter.

What I do know is that we're almost 4 years into the pandemic, and this narrative of covid making people immunocompromised just doesn't hold up. If it's even happening it's not happening at a scale that is noticeable. Where are all these immunocompromised people?

M. leprae but yeah. and as you likely know, also the genus responsible for the 'berc

as to the reasons behind immunity i'm not sure we know, here's a chapter looking at the immunopathology of it https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0065277610050017?via%3Dihub

It has a narrow host range and apart from humans, the only other natural hosts are nine-banded armadillo and red squirrels.

Also the BCG vaccine apparently provides some amount of resistance

The real bizarre thing to me about leprosy has always been that 90%+ of people are immune to it and possibly always were? I'm guessing the fact that it takes a million years to actually turn up if you're vulnerable and get infected made it extremely spooky where the ancients could do the math on "handled plague body, got plague shortly thereafter" etc.

echinopsis
Apr 13, 2004

what I picked up from that is that our innate immunity, as in our immune system ROM that we come shipped with, can recognise and attack it

at least in some of us

i don't think we actually knew about immunity being as widespread as it is until comparatively recently, but even back then they knew that not everyone would get it. that's how you had "normal" people working at leper colonies without ever actually getting leprosy
