I've probably mentioned this before but watch The Queen of Versailles, it's about some new money guy who marries a woman half his age and has a new family in his sixties, dude's a billionaire and the first thing he does after he wakes up is go to a little room in his basement and lock himself in so his family can't bother him. big lols

i don't want to work today. what i actually want to do is clean my windows and my bathroom and get rid of my "to donate" pile. not sure if donations are being accepted so if not i'll go stash them in my in-law's basement until next year.

I’ve enjoyed eating all meals with the kids and wife and generally seeing them a bunch more.

still I’d love it if I could on-demand be alone for when I really need to get something done. I’m definitely a fan of ~*deep work*~ and crushing something for a few hours is still more productive than a normal day of interruptions and chasing email, whether in the office or not.

lol that our cfo straight up told me he was way more productive and finished his work in half a day. good on him for having the huevos to just come out and say it

a few of our friends like to put their kids to bed at 1900-1930 and its like 1) congrats theyre going to wake you up at 7a 2) in michigan it's light outside until 10p so brilliant strat there 3) will you literally die if you spend time with your kids? how much time do you actually get with them if you finish work at normal times? a max of three hours?

you don't have kids because it makes you happy or enhances your life in the short term; you make kids to satisfy biological imperative

although yeah some people just do it b/c of status even though they don't really want kids and that's really loving sad for everyone involved

in countries like the us where parents don't get the support they need, parents tend to be slightly less happy than before they had kids. however, in places like norway where they do, they're happier. it's the lack of social support making people unhappy

yeah when i was in my teens and 20s i looked back and wondered why i woke up so early apl the time as a lsmall child. like, up at 5-6 am. and then in my 30s when my friends started having kids i learned that it’s actually because they get put into bed at like 5:45
